16 athletes who were arrested for speeding

A professional athlete often lives a very different life than we do. When an adoring audience (and often their own curators) treats him like royalty, a rock star, and a demigod, it affects a person's lifestyle. . Add to that the insane amount of money most of these guys make, and it's not hard to see that a "normal" life is often the last thing any of them can or even wants to do. After all, who wouldn't want to be pampered wherever they go and live in excessive luxury? For example, did you know that the average Major League Baseball salary was almost $4.5 million last year? This is the average salary of the guys. Even more “amazing” (get what I did there, baseball fans?) is that daily meals for MLB players on the road were over $100 back in 2016. This means these guys are getting over $100 for free every time. during the day they are on the road only to eat, which they can use to save money on the car… Yes, as I said, athletes lead different lives.

This extends to their love of big, fast, fancy and, of course, expensive cars. If you have money, why not choose to travel in style? And since they are athletes, they, of course, like to go fast. They also live in such a sheltered bubble that when they are actually caught speeding, they are often released with a "verbal warning" or a metaphorical slap on the wrist. While they're signing autographs for officers before they rush off, right? But sometimes all the money and fame can't keep you from getting that horrendous speeding ticket and higher rate. Here are 16 athletes who have been arrested for driving over 100 miles per hour.

16 Tyrek Evans - 100+ mph

Here's a problem for the guys with the bright limousine paint job. Even if they're NBA stars driving a 2010 Mercedes-Benz S550, the law won't help them. That's what happened to NBA star Tyreke Evans in 2010 when he was pulled over by police for going "over 100 mph". The officers who pulled him over on Memorial Day walked up to his car with weapons at the ready because they couldn't look inside - maybe all of you with tinted windshields should think about this for a second and ask yourself if it's worth it? Of course, you can always try to keep below 100 mph and not get stopped, I guess. Whatever the case, Evans, who at the time was playing for Sacto, was a member of the US Olympic team and was only the fourth NBA rookie ever to average 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in his rookie season. 15 Jason Peters - "Over 100 MPH"

via losangelestimes.com and si.com

That's how it is with the "over 100 mph" statement you saw above. Usually, when the police don't really want to admit how fast a guy was moving, they release a statement like this. Maybe that makes things a little less crazy than they really were when they were "pretending" things weren't so bad. Not that going over 100 mph is a good thing, Mr. Peters. This world champion Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle was probably hitting just over 100 when he was busted for drag racing. Yes, this guy was racing with someone through the city streets in his Chevy Camaro, and when the cops showed up, he started racing with them too. It takes a serious couple of you know what. Peters was charged with drag racing, reckless driving and resisting arrest (nothing physical as far as racing is concerned). He paid a $656 fine, which seems pretty small compared to what he actually did.

14 LeBron James - 101 mph

LeBron is one of the most explosive players ever to lace up his sneakers and take to the NBA floor. For a big guy, his lightning-fast movements both in the open deck and around the basket are almost unmatched. Apparently, he also likes to drive pretty fast on the roads. LeBron was pulled over in his '08 Mercedes-Benz on December 30, 2008 for running 101 mph on Interstate 71 outside of Cleveland after returning home from a road game. “I was walking home to go to bed,” James said. “It doesn't really matter. You just need to follow the rules. I made a mistake and I have to live with it." Some mistakes are more costly than others: the superstar has been fined at least $150 or more for his short cruise at speed. By the way, the whole incident happened on the 23rd of James.rd birthday—whoops!

13 Bernard Berrian - 104 mph

How much are you willing to pay to go as fast as you want on the trip of your choice? 500 dollars? 1,000 dollars? $5,000??? How about a measly $300? That's how much former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Bernard Berrian had to pay for a speeding ticket in 2009. Berrian hit 104 mph in his Audi R8 (above). I'm a big fan of the R8, but I'm not sure I'd want a cop I didn't see catch me over a hundred and fly past, which is what Berrian did. I'm also a little confused by all these Minnesota Vikings who get stopped all the time in the winter. Isn't the land of 10,000 lakes a frozen tundra from November to March? It seems a bit insane that anyone, even NFL stars who think they're invincible, would ever want to try their luck on bare ice.

12 Ashley Cole - 104 mph

If you've ever paid attention to the English Premier League club Chelsea - why not? after all, they are one of the strengths in the EPL - then you know that this high-profile franchise has attracted a lot of stars and a lot of somewhat "colorful" stars over the years. Defender Ashley Cole is definitely one of those guys in the latter category, especially considering he cheated on his ex-wife, the ultra-hot Cheryl Cole (that's her in the photo with him). If it's not crazy, then nothing. Ashley also has a need for speed, as evidenced by his 2008 stop outside of London when he hit 104 mph. He was arrested in his Lamborghini Gallardo, which must have eased the pain of detention a little. I would rather get a ticket in one of them than in any other car - am I right or right? Ashley claimed he thought he was only going 80 mph (in the 45 mph zone) and that "paparazzi" were following him. Okay, Ashley, we believe you. Indeed, we do.

11 Derrick Rose - 106 mph

Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to the former #1 overall, one-time NBA league MVP, beloved hometown hero of the Chicago Bulls, and career-destroying injury fame Derrick Rose! The Great Moody was once pulled over in his '08 Land Rover for going over 106 mph. He was ordered to go to a driving school and pay a $1,000 fine. The funny thing about this incident is that Rose hadn't even been drafted by the Bulls yet—his major pro contract was still months away, and he was driving an expensive Rover. What to do about it, Derrick? Maybe you shouldn't ask? In any case, Rose hit 106 mph in the 65 mph zone on I-88 outside the City of Big Shoulders. He may not be the most notorious criminal on our list, but he still made it to the Hundred Laps.

10 Thomas Robinson - 107 mph

Even if you're a big NBA fan, you may not remember Thomas Robinson well. He may have lasted almost six seasons in the NBA, but spent most of that time on the bench. The former No. 5 in the 2012 NBA draft never lived up to his potential and now plays in the Euroleague, whatever that may be. Perhaps this explains why Robinson was arrested for hitting 107 mph in his Porsche Panamera - it was the only place he could actually get up and go. This is the same car above after a later crash. Either way, Robinson (and his $85,000 car) effectively doubled the posted speed limit and paid a fine of almost $1,200. After the incident, Robinson told his millions of Twitter followers (okay, hundreds) that he "needed to be more careful." Um, yes, Tommy, my buddy, it doesn't look like you are.

9 Adrian Peterson - 109 mph

If you've never heard of Adrian Peterson, then you clearly don't follow the NFL or controversial social issues like parental "discipline" as opposed to child abuse. Yes, the former Minnesota Vikings star has had a very cool public persona over the years, even though he's been on the field at Hall of Fame level. The running back star has also had run-ins with the law, including a speeding ticket in 2009 when he hit a crazy 109 mph in his BMW. Hey it was only 54 mph over the posted speed limit, which our guy Adrian obviously didn't notice, probably because he was going too fast to read it. The best part of Peterson's confrontation with the police is that he later pleaded guilty to only going to 99 mph to keep his license. I think sometimes being rich and famous can be profitable, even if you plead guilty.

8 Jadevon Clowney - 110 miles per hour

There was a time when the legendary JJ Watt was the only reason the Houston Texans defense made anyone fearful. But then the young protectors of the herd arrived, and suddenly the whole D was a miracle. One such stallion was Jadevon Clooney, the No. 1 pick in the 2013 NFL Draft and a linebacker beast. The clowns are also clearly a beast behind the wheel. On December 7, 2013, he was cautioned for going 110 mph in a Chrysler 300 on a freeway in South Carolina (he was playing his student ball there) and was fined $355. Just a few weeks later, on December 26, Clooney was pulled over again on the same trip for going 84 mph in the 55 mph zone and was issued a $455 ticket. The second time, the dashboard camera of the policeman who pulled him over showed Cloney switching places with his passenger before they drove off again. Smart move, Jadeveon... smart move - like your "reconciliation" with the cops we see above.

7 Yasiel Puch - 110 miles per hour

This guy has been largely inactive with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the last couple of years after he fled Cuba and signed a giant contract with the Dodgers. Then came last year, when "Wild Horse" (a nickname given to Puig by Vin Scully) broke through in a big way, becoming an MLB superstar and helping the Dodgers go all the way to the World Series. But before his meteoric breakthrough, the superstar was caught in 2013 speeding 110 mph in zone 70 on Alligator Alley, a famous stretch of road outside of Fort Lauderdale. He was driving a 2013 Mercedes-Benz. What's wrong with all these athletes getting into benzes? I'm just asking because a Mercedes wouldn't be my first choice for speed cruising. Now let's move on to our next record, which features another guy from the Los Angeles team.

6 Andrew Bynum - 110 mph

You may remember Andrew Bynum because of his size. The 7-footer was selected by the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the 2005 draft right out of high school. , as: this size. You may remember him because he became the youngest player to ever start in the NBA after being drafted so young. And you may remember him because he was basically an underdog, a journeyman player with very few awards. But what you probably didn't know was that he was also a speed demon - that is, off the court. On the court, he was a little slow. Bynum was punished in Los Angeles in 2010 for hitting 110 mph in the 55 mph zone in his 2010 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano (remember, he was choice in the first round). The car, of course, was custom-made, as was Bynum's booking - he escaped with only a penalty ticket because traffic was hampered when he was stopped and he stayed in the same lane the entire time.

5 Plaxico Burress - 125 mph

I bet you remember the name "Plaxico Burress" even if this guy hasn't played in the NFL for several years. The former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver was quite talented during his time in the league, pulling tons of catches and touchdowns from Big Ben Roethlisberger (no stranger to car accidents himself). He was also a pretty tough guy, having more than one run-in with the law, including that crazy night in 2008 when he shot himself in the foot while partying at a nightclub. Crybaby also had a very good time behind the wheel, the same year he was pulled over for going 125 mph in his Ferrari on a Florida highway. Hey, that was only 70 mph over the speed limit, which must be the reason why Burress miraculously wasn't booked and never faced any charges for going faster than most of us could even dream of. Yes, you can insert sarcasm here.

4 Greg Little - 127 mph

via businessinsider.com

Most of the guys on this list may have been racing like crazy when they got busted, but at least they didn't crash into anything. This was not the case with former Cleveland Browns and current free agent wide receiver Greg Little, who crashed his silver (well, chrome-plated, as you can see above) 2011 Audi R8 Coupe into an Interstate Ohio lamppost about 127 miles into hour in 2013. It's kind of insane speed at all times, but then crashing into a stationary object and getting away from it unharmed is quite an achievement. Little didn't seem to have learned his lesson, as just a few months later he was arrested for going 81 mph in the 60 mph zone. So, we all know that wide receivers are supposed to be fast on the field, but being too fast on the road will do a lot more damage to a guy than hitting some linebacker when he comes out of the center.

3 Kyle Busch- 128 mph

Most of the guys on this list either received minor traffic tickets or, not surprisingly given their cultural status, were not punished at all. But NASCAR legend Kyle Busch didn't get off easy. Back in May 2011, Busch, a veteran race car driver who probably should have known better, was arrested for hitting 128 mph in his Lexus LFA sports car. Worst of all, Bush (did I mention he should have known better?) was moving at that speed in the 45 mph zone. Maybe that's why the judge suspended his license for 45 days, ordered him to pay a $1,000 fine, and also sentenced him to 30 hours of community service. In fact, professional drivers don't get in trouble with speeding law very often - most of them seem to give up their need for speed on an oval track. That's why maybe - just maybe - the judge thought he should have known better. Did I mention this already???

2 Karim Benzema - 135 mph

This international hero "Footy" (that's football for all you Americans reading this) has been a mainstay of the French national team for years and is widely recognized as the standout striker of the dominant Real Madrid franchise, where he scored 124 goals. since 2009. He also seems to have a bit of a liking for speed, as he was arrested in March 135 for speeding up to 2013 mph. road game on the Audi RS5 4.2 FSI, which was presented to him by the automaker as part of an advertising campaign. Since he was ordered to appear in court on the same day that France played a World Cup qualifier, forcing him to miss the match, it's safe to say that Audi's decision could have at least some backfire...

1 Alexey Ovechkin - 165 mph

He is a former NHL league MVP. He is unmistakably inducted into the Hall of Fame on the first vote the minute he hangs up his skates and is eligible for initiation. He's lightning fast on the ice and also a damn fast slapshot. But apparently Ovi, the star captain of the Washington Capitals for a dozen years, also likes to drive really fast. It's either that, or he's crazy about training on time. Sometime in 2008 (details are a little hazy since Ovechkin himself told the story to a reporter and there is no police report) he was pulled over in the D.C. metro area for speeding to 165 mph trying to get to the team skating. Ovi also told other reporters that he had "several" speeding tickets and once hit 180 mph in the same car, a Mercedes-Benz AMG. Built for speed, Ovi!
