4 problems with a car that you shouldn’t even try to fix - it’s more profitable to rent a car for scrap metal or sell it for parts

Some car malfunctions do not bode well for him. Sometimes it’s easier not to bother with repairs, but to get rid of the car right away.

4 problems with a car that you shouldn’t even try to fix - it’s more profitable to rent a car for scrap metal or sell it for parts

Violation of body geometry

In some cases, restoring a beaten “muzzle” of a car is not particularly difficult, even despite the unpresentable appearance. However, if the car has experienced a powerful frontal impact, then problems may arise.

In a strong collision, the front part of the body is deformed. Violation of the geometry entails an expensive replacement of the frame part, where the headlights, radiator, cladding, front bumper and so on are attached. In addition, you will have to remove the engine, which is not an easy task in a broken car.

The most serious violations of the geometry of the body after a frontal collision are the complete deformation of the front of the car. Sometimes the blow affects the entire body in general, including the power elements and frame parts in all directions. These and other defects are eliminated only on special equipment by a master with extensive experience in carrying out such work. But it is often more profitable to sell a car for parts or scrap it.

Complete engine wear

The internal combustion engine is the second most important component of the car after the body. And it is not eternal - at one "wonderful" moment, the motor simply "refuses" to fulfill its duties. And here the question arises before the car owner: send the engine for overhaul, change it completely or change the entire vehicle.

Under normal operating conditions, in compliance with the rules and regulations of operation and care, a modern car engine can stretch 200-300 thousand kilometers to critical wear of key components. This parameter varies greatly depending on the quality, type of construction and conditions of its use. For this reason, focusing only on mileage is not worth it. Among the indirect evidence of impending problems, due to which the engine may soon go on vacation, are the following:

  • weak acceleration with loss of power - wear of the cylinder-piston group, coking of the exhaust tract, detonation, etc.;
  • low oil pressure - clogging of oil channels, malfunction of the oil intake tube, breakdown of the pressure reducing valve, faulty oil pump, expansion of gaps between engine parts;
  • high oil consumption - mainly wear of the piston group, but there may be other reasons;
  • uncertain start of the engine - incomplete closing of the valves, breakage of valve springs, cracks in the head of the engine block, severe wear or occurrence of piston rings;
  • low compression - problems with one or all cylinders;
  • blue smoke comes out of the exhaust pipe - oil penetrates into the combustion chamber, which indicates wear of the cylinder-piston group, oil scraper caps, the development of valve stems and guide bushings;
  • ragged idling - a large difference in the degree of compression in the cylinders, wear of the engine bearings;
  • increased fuel consumption - the development of a cylinder-piston group, a crank mechanism, a malfunction of the valves, a non-optimal temperature regime of the engine;
  • soot on spark plugs - oil getting into the chamber, the more soot, the closer the "death" of the motor;
  • strong detonation - incorrect engine operation due to various mechanical problems;
  • the engine knocks - problems with the crankshaft, connecting rod bearings, pistons, piston pins;
  • the motor overheats - leaks in the combustion chambers, hanging valves, ingress of combustion elements into the oil flow line or into the cooling system, microcracks in the cylinder head;
  • penetration of gaskets - threatens with oil entering the coolant or vice versa with all the ensuing consequences up to engine failure;
  • pulsations in the gas exhaust hose of the crankcase - a breakthrough of gases from the combustion chamber into the crankcase as a result of wear of the piston group.

One or more of the problems discussed above is a reason to call in a car service for a major overhaul. In severe cases, the replacement of numerous components, elements and assemblies can cost such an amount that it may be easier and better to buy a new car.

Severe corrosion damage

The average service life of the machine is 10 - 20 years (although this depends on many factors). Significantly reduces the service life of the iron horse exposure to aggressive environments and conditions with indispensable corrosion of car components. Typically, parts such as the body, pipelines, elements of brake systems, and the frame are subject to rusting. Some elements can be replaced or repaired, other nodes become unsuitable for further use.

In order to reduce the cost of the car, their manufacturers often use a very thin steel sheet for the body. The first signs of corrosion on such cars are visible after 1,5 - 2 years of use. Worst of all, the internal (hidden) parts of the body are highly susceptible to rusting. The danger is represented by all kinds of cracks, gaps, chips, welds, where moisture accumulates and stagnates the most.

The consequences of corrosion exposure can be very deplorable and even deadly. Therefore, in the presence of severe rust, it is worth considering whether it is worth repairing such a car.

Electrical problems after flooding the car

Modern cars, literally crammed with electronics, after flooding, it is almost impossible to return to a full life. This is a sad fact. It is possible that some workshops will undertake the restoration of the vehicle, but it will be difficult to repair such a car. Replacing the wiring or repairing one of the damaged units will not guarantee that similar symptoms will not appear with other electrical components in a couple of weeks or three.

In any case, before you take your four-wheeled friend to repair, it is worth calculating the profitability of the likely recovery of the car. If as a result of flooding the electrician (as well as the engine) “covered up”, it is better to send the car to a landfill. You should not try to disguise the traces of the flood and sell the car, hiding its unfortunate past. In theory, this may make it possible to at least somehow compensate for the losses, but in reality, it is not far from the court on the fact of fraud with compensation for damages.
