The 5 Best BMW Ms Ever – Sports Cars

When car enthusiasts start talking about BMW sports it is impossible not to get into heated discussions. The M Sport division has always created cars with excellent balance, cars with a sporty DNA derived from competition (no trash and marketing operations), but also suitable for everyday use. This is why the BMW M3 E30, the progenitor of the sports M, is considered one of the best sports cars of all time. Over the years, the M cars have changed, losing but gaining something at the same time. The recipe doesn't change: rear-wheel drive, sharp chassis, engine swelling to the red tachometer area, and great everyday use. It's hard to say which is better. We tried, and even if it is impossible to convince everyone to agree, we believe that only you deserve the top rung of the podium ...

BMW Z4 M

In fifth place we find a fairly new car, but with a temperament reminiscent of the sports cars of the past. There BMW Z4 M it is a physical, cool and rebellious machine. Under the long bonnet lies the legendary 3-liter M46 E3,2 inline-six engine with 343 hp. at 7.900 rpm and 365 Nm at 4.900 rpm. The Z4 accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 5 seconds and accelerates to 250 km / h.

Power is sent to the ground via a mechanical limited-slip differential, and the gearbox is BMW's excellent six-speed manual. The Z4 is one of those machines that demands respect, steady arms and belly fur. The naturally aspirated inline six-cylinder engine has a huge reach and a metallic roar against the skin. It won't be one of the most docile and balanced cars to come out of the gates of the Bavarian house, but that's the reason why the Z4 M is loved.

BMW M3 E30

(Now) grandma M sport could only be part of the 5 best sports BMWs ever made. The M3 E 30 was born in 1985 and is powered by a 4 cc inline 2.302-cylinder engine.

3 Sport Evolution, limited to 600 pieces. Today we find this cavalry on the Clio, but in the 86 the M3 was capable of super performance. But it's not just about speed: the E30 has a breathtaking silhouette, one of the best BMW has ever produced, and the same can be said for the chassis. The M3's sporting victories speak volumes about the virtues of its chassis: 1.500 victories (between rally and touring) and over 50 international titles, including the 1987 World Touring title.

BMW 1M

La BMW 1M was a turning point for M Sport cars. It was the first supercharged engine and the first "M child" after 20 years of the existence of the M3 and M5. In a sense, the 1M, with its compactness and more affordable price, is the true spiritual successor to the M3 E30. From the outside, she is muscular, tense and ready to tear to pieces opponents far more powerful than her. It is powered by a 3.000 cc twin-turbo engine. See, 340 hp. at 5900 rpm and 450 Nm of torque between 1.500 and 4.500 rpm, coupled exclusively to a six-speed manual transmission. The 1M is as fast as its V8 big sister, but stiffer, more compact and focused. Its short wheelbase and monstrous torque make it a demanding yet extremely rewarding vehicle. Without a doubt one of the best Ms of our day.

BMW M5 E60

La BMW M5 E60First, it's a beautiful car. Chris Bangle created lines that break with the past, but at the same time set the course for BMW design. For us, this is simply one of the best Series 5s ever. The M5 E60 was the pinnacle of the power increase race before the economic crisis and oil prices drastically reduced the number of cylinders. Under the hood is nothing more than a 10-liter V5 engine with 500 hp. at 7.750 rpm and 500 Nm of torque in combination with a 7-speed robotic gearbox (SMG 7). Its performance is still impressive, with 0-100 km/h in 4,5 seconds and 250 km/h electronically limited. Fitting an (almost) racing engine into a comfortable and spacious sedan can seem crazy. Well, it is, which is why the M5 E 60 deserves the second step on the podium.

BMW M3 E46

Run with a knife in your teeth, walk, make endless transitions and comfortably take you from home to your office (or to the track). This is what M3 E46and does it better than any other car. Its 3.200 cc, 343 hp. at 7.900 rpm and 365 Nm (like the Z4) it is considered one of the best engines in the world. Below 5.500 RPM it's a little lazy, but beyond that threshold, it's capable of staggering stretches. The M3 E46 also boasts one of the best frames made by the guys at M Sport. There is nothing better than another: the gearbox, steering, engine and drive are perfectly balanced and work in harmony to make your driving experience unforgettable. The M3 was also available in the CSL version, an even sportier and lighter version with a sequential gearbox, more efficient tires and brakes, and an even more aggressive exterior.
