APS – Audi Pre Sense
One of the most sophisticated active safety systems developed by Audi for emergency braking assistance, very similar to pedestrian detection.
The device uses radar sensors of the automobile ACC system to measure distances and a video camera installed at the highest point of the passenger compartment, i.e. in the area of the interior rearview mirror, capable of providing up to 25 images each. If the system detects a dangerous situation, the Audi brake protection function is activated, which issues a visual and audible warning to the driver to warn him, and if a collision is imminent, it triggers emergency braking to reduce the intensity of the impact. The device is particularly effective even at high speeds, allowing, if necessary, to sharply reduce the speed of the vehicle and, consequently, the degree of impact.
