Ford cars recognize road boundaries

The first models to receive the system will be Explorer, Focus, Kuga and Puma for Europe.

Ford introduced a new driver assistance system that can recognize the boundaries of the road, according to the American automaker.

The assistant, called Road Edge Detection, is part of the lane maintenance system. Using a camera mounted under the rearview mirror, the electronics scanned the road 50 meters in front and 7 meters from the car. A special algorithm analyzes the surface and determines the boundaries at which one type (asphalt) passes into another (gravel or grass), holding the car on the road surface.

The system works at speeds in the speed range of 70-110 km / h, which allows the driver to feel more secure in a situation where the road boundaries are difficult to distinguish - in the rain, when the markings are covered with snow or leaves. If the driver does not respond to automatic trajectory correction, the steering wheel will begin to vibrate, attracting the person's attention.

The first Ford models to receive a road boundary recognition system will be Explorer, Focus, Kuga and Puma for the European market.
