At CES 2019, BMW unveiled the BMW R1200GS [internal combustion] motorcycle. Two-wheeled vehicles could move completely independently, without additional wheels and supports. BMW claims most of the electronics responsible for this are already in the company's modern motorcycles.

The motorcycle was developed by the German manufacturer for three years. The technology under study is expected to help create safer two-wheelers in the future. The program will be especially useful for novice drivers and will help them in difficult situations provoked by a person. The greatest emphasis is placed on solving problems at intersections and during emergency braking.

Most surprising, however, is another claim: BMW claims that most of the sensors needed for the new software are already installed on motorcycles. Therefore, adding software will not significantly increase production costs. Development of features such as traction control and automatic braking in hazardous situations should reach the GS line within 2-10 years. Later, he may debut in cheaper buildings.

Why are we interested in this motorcycle, even though it is internal combustion? Most importantly, it makes an impression. 🙂 However, there is something else: from the statements of car manufacturers (for example, Tesla or General Motors), it seems that electric cars are more autonomous. Advanced electronic systems require a lot of electricity - think about the power of a good gaming computer - and it's much easier to get it from a battery than from an internal combustion generator.

Therefore, it seems to us that further advanced technologies will appear on the market with electric vehicles or hybrids equipped with large batteries.
