BMW 3-Series Gran Turismo will no longer be produced

Not a single 3-Series Gran Turismo will ever come off BMW conveyors. This means that the 3rd series of the current generation will not have variations in the hatchback form factor.

This model is one of the niche manufacturer BMW. It became known that the company decided to stop its release. Thus, in 2020, between the sedan and the station wagon there will be no intermediate link.

This news was not shocking for fans of the German brand. Harald Krueger, the former head of the automaker, said back in May 2018 that the hatchback line would not be continued.

Kruger made such a statement during the presentation of the financial report, and for good reason. The fact is that the hatchback is seriously behind its counterparts in terms of sales. The production and sale of this variation became unprofitable for the company, as motorists preferred other models from the line. We can say that consumers themselves predicted the fate of the hatchback.

He became a niche model even on a 3-Series scale. The car combines the characteristics of a station wagon and a sedan. Such a decision will not be unique in the coming years. BMW is committed to optimizing production and cutting costs. For example, in 2021, the manufacturer plans to reduce the number of engines produced. Experts predict that the course on saving will bring the German company about 12 billion euros.
