Test drive Lamborghini Urus

Lamborghini not only built a very fast crossover, but in fact opened a new page in history. And not only his own

The small lake Bracciano and the nearby Vallelunga race track are about forty kilometers from Rome. But such proximity to the capital does not in any way affect the quality of local roads. They are exactly the same as throughout Italy, that is, as in Sochi before the Olympics. The Urus shakes perceptibly on hastily patched pits, tar seams and deep cracks. An unpleasant nervous itching when driving through small irregularities runs not only along the body, but is also transmitted to the salon and to the steering wheel.

Just a couple of years ago, any such reasoning about Lamborghini cars would have caused slight bewilderment, but now everything is different. Urus, though sporty, is still a crossover. Or as the Italians themselves call it - SuperSUV. So from him and the demand is different. Moreover, when Urus was created, Lamba specialists had at their disposal one of the most successful platforms of our time - MLB Evo. The one on which a huge number of incredibly balanced cars are built, ranging from the high-tech Audi A8 and Q7 to Buckingham Palace on wheels, that is, the Bentley Bentayga.

However, when hitting large pits, the Urus behaves unperturbed. Suspensions on pneumatic struts quietly swallow even very large potholes, and their strokes seem so large that it seems as if they, in principle, cannot be compressed into a buffer. And in part it is. For example, in off-road driving modes in the maximum raised position of the body, the clearance of the Italian crossover reaches 248 mm.

By the way, the Urus is the first Lamborghini to have off-road mechatronics. In addition to the traditional Strada, Sport and Corsa modes, Sabbia (sand), Terra (ground) and Neva (snow) modes have appeared here. By the way, they change not only the stabilization system settings, but also the active rear cross-axle differential. The only thing that remains unchanged is the settings of the center center differential. It distributes torque 60:40 to the rear wheels in any driving mode.

This set of vehicles, along with the fully steerable chassis, does not fail on the track, especially when putting all systems in Corsa mode. On the narrow band of the Vallelunga ring, the Urus holds up just as well as other sports sedans. And to put it on a par with a real coupe, perhaps, only the weight does not allow - nevertheless, a certain weightiness is felt in the reactions of Lamborghini. Still: more than 5 m in length and over 2 tons of mass. However, the way the Urus screwed into corners and the way the active stabilizers resist roll is really impressive.

And how the supercharged V8 sings - low, with shots when switching. However, the main thing in the motor is still not the sound, but the recoil. It delivers maximum 650 forces already at 6000 rpm, and the peak torque of 850 Nm is smeared on a wide shelf from 2250 to 4500 rpm. The engine, coupled with the latest eight-speed gearbox and all-wheel drive system based on the Torsen differential, help Urus set several class records at once: acceleration to 3,6 km / h in 200 seconds, up to 12,9 km / h in 305 seconds and a top speed of XNUMX km / h

The circulation of Urus will also be record-breaking. Especially for the production of the first crossover, a new production hall was built at the Lamborghini plant in Santa Agata Bolognese, which is equipped with the most modern assembly robots. In the lineup of the Italian manufacturer, the Urus will be the first model in the assembly of which the use of manual labor will be minimized.

This technology will allow the Urus to become the most massive Lamborghini in history. Next year, about 1000 of these cars will be produced, and in another year, production will increase to 3500 units. Thus, the circulation of the Urus will be exactly half of the total volume of cars that Lamborghini plans to produce in a couple of years.

When asked whether such a tangible circulation of "Urus" will affect the image and exclusivity of Lamborghini cars, the head of the company Stefano Domenicali confidently replies "no" and immediately adds: "Now you can't relax - it's time to act aggressively."
