What is a tubeless tire?

The tubeless tire is the standard tire in a car today. It was developed in the 1950s, replacing the old tube tires. In contrast, a tubeless tire does not have a visible tube. Its tightness is ensured by an inner membrane, and the tire is pressed against the rim.

🔍 What is the working principle of a tubeless tire?

What is a tubeless tire?

Le tubeless tire it is the most common tire type today. Most likely, your own car is equipped with it! It is a tubeless tire, the analogue of which is built directly into the tire.

The tubeless tire was invented in 1928 by New Zealander Edward Bryce Killen. The tubeless tire, patented in 1930, has gradually spread to all cars, thanks in part to manufacturers such as Michelin.

Did you know? The tubeless tire isn't just for cars. It is found on many cars, including motorcycles, but also on bicycles, mainly ATVs.

Air storage and tubeless tightness is ensured by inner membrane... The tire is pressed directly against the rim. The tube tire, in turn, had a rubber tube in the inner part and inflatable valve connected to the inner tube. On a tubeless tire, this valve is attached to the rim.

The tubeless tire has many advantages over the tubeless tire, which of course explains why it has become widespread in the automotive industry. To begin with, the absence of pinching between the tube and the tire wall allows reduce the risk of punctures tires greatly.

If, despite this, a puncture occurs, the loss of air in the tubeless tire occurs more slowly, again due to the lack of a tube. This allows you not to be immediately immobilized in the event of a puncture. With a tube tire, it was impossible to continue driving for a while: the pressure loss was instantaneous.

The democratization of tubeless tires has also been achieved thanks to the greater durability of this type of tire, which also has the advantage of being lighter. Finally, its assembly is simplified as there is no need to pay attention to the assembly of the inner tube, for which it was absolutely necessary to avoid pinching.

However, the tubeless tire has one drawback: ремонт... In the event of a tire puncture in the inner tube, it was sufficient to replace the inner tube. Today, a tubeless tire can be irreparable, especially if you continued to ride it, which damages it and no longer makes repair impossible.

In this case, it will be necessary to replace the entire tire, which, of course, will lead to additional costs compared to the price of one tube.

👨‍🔧 How to get a tubeless tire repaired?

What is a tubeless tire?

A tubeless tire is the standard tire for your car today. It can be repaired in two ways:

  • с champignon ;
  • With ипе wick.

Manufacturers recommend mushroom repair, which consists of repairing the tire from the inside. Such repairs are longer and more expensive, but also more reliable. It follows several steps to ensure that your tire is well maintained.

However, for a tubeless tire to be repairable, several conditions must be met. Compared to a tube tire, a tubeless tire has the advantage that it does not experience such a sudden loss of pressure and therefore does not force you to stop immediately. But by continuing to ride, you can make the tire irreparable.

Therefore, in order to be repaired, a tubeless tire must meet all of the following criteria:

  • The hole has diameter less than 6 mm ;
  • Le tire sidewall whole;
  • The puncture is on to tread ;
  • La internal structure pneumatic also intact.

💰 How much does a tubeless tire cost?

What is a tubeless tire?

Le tire price depends on several criteria: manufacturer, type (summer, 4 seasons, winter, etc.), size and, of course, the seller. You can buy tires from a car dealer or online, or go straight to the garage. They don't all charge the same price.

Similarly, manufacturers generally fall into three categories: entry-level, quality, and premium. Premium tires from major manufacturers are the most expensive. In addition, a 4-season tire or winter tire is more expensive than a standard summer tire.

Finally, the size of a tire sometimes has a significant impact on its price. The average price of standard-size premium summer tires is 60 € approximately, not counting the assembly.

As you already understood, a tubeless tire is just a tire that our cars are equipped with today. It has replaced the inner chamber of the camera due to its many advantages, in particular because it greatly reduces the risk of punctures.
