What is a downpipe and why is it needed?

So what is a downpipe?

Thus, a downpipe without coils will have a noticeable smell because exhaust emissions are not significantly converted. In other words, they are not cleared. For this reason, and because it helps the environment, most people choose the spool version of the downpipe.
