What is a Pipe Vise?
| A hinged pipe vise (sometimes called a yoke pipe vise) holds pipes between a pair of V-shaped jaws: a fixed lower jaw and a movable upper jaw. |
 | The jaws, usually made of hardened tool steel, securely clamp the length of pipe into position so that it can be worked on. |
 | Most pipe clamps are reversible because they do not require them to be pointed in a certain way or in a certain position. This means that they can be adapted for both right and left hand use. |
 | While a pipe chain vise is more suitable for holding very large sections of pipe, a pipe swivel vise can effectively hold smaller diameter pipes. Higher capacity swivel vices can hold pipes up to 150 mm (6 in.) in diameter. |
 | Most pipe clamps are designed for workshop use and are usually attached to a workbench. |
