Daewoo Takuma 1.8 SX

The purpose, of course, varies from car to car. Thus, some are intended only for the transportation of passengers and their luggage from point A to point B, while others evoke certain feelings in the driver and his passengers with their features and details and at the same time pamper them.

Daewoo Tacuma can pamper chassis users. Swallowing both short and long bumps is only comfortable with a lightweight vehicle (with the driver and front passenger in it), while the slightly larger holes and lateral cracks are a slightly stiffer nut that the chassis cannot completely cover. Thus, in addition to the strong recoil of the chassis, they are also spread from cheap plastic, which is in abundance inside, with additional, unpleasant voices. The same is with swallowing irregularities in a loaded vehicle (five people), which is just as inconvenient, since vibrations are very strongly transmitted to the buttocks and ears of passengers.

Two other features that mostly concern the chassis are location and handling. The latter also depends on the heavily reinforced steering servo, which is comfortable when parking and getting around the bustle of the city, but, on the other hand, suffers from responsiveness, and the consequence of this, of course, is poor handling.

It's the same with the stance, which is also not shiny, and with cars moving through the front wheelset. Understeer at the upper limit of the chassis is manifested by the nose out of the corner, which is easily remedied by adding a steering wheel and removing the throttle.

The next non-dynamic feature of the Tacumina is the engine. From 1 liter of volume and a design that is already a little older, it squeezes out 8 kW or 70 hp. maximum power at 98 rpm of the main shaft and reaches a maximum torque of 5200 Nm at 148 rpm. All these numbers, plus the shape of the torque curve and the car's 3600 kilograms curb weight, do not promise breakthrough performance on paper. In practice, we come to a very similar conclusion, since his work is mostly lazy.

With poor responsiveness, it is among those engines that are designed for smoother and slower trips, such as family trips to nature. If you do not move the engine to a higher rev range and therefore drive mainly in the so-called economic zone, which Daewoo has marked green between 1500 and 2500 rpm, you will have an additional effect. During this time, the engine runs pleasantly quiet, and as the rpm rises, the noise increases exponentially and becomes very unpleasant at about 4000 rpm. However, if, despite all the warnings, you decide to squeeze the best out of the device, you will find that it is not recommended to increase the speed above 5500 rpm. Above this limit, apart from the huge noise, it doesn't offer much useful flexibility, although the ignition switch stops it at 6200rpm and the red field starts slightly higher at 6500.

Another bad feature is the gearbox, where the shift lever resists shifting, especially if it's fast. The engine is also not overly thirsty due to “drowsiness”, as the average consumption on the test was 11 liters per 3 kilometers of track, which is still acceptable.

Another "merit" is that the noise in the cabin is so great, mainly due to poor sound insulation. This is relatively unfortunate for “suppressing” wheel rolling noise, which is all the more noticeable on wet roads and at higher speeds when cutting air becomes quite annoying due to the wind.

While exploring the interior, of course, one cannot ignore the Korean cheapness. Inside, there is an abundance of hard and cheap plastic everywhere, and the seats are upholstered in fabric, which is pleasant to the touch, but only of average quality. Daewoo says it has grown far from its (Opel) roots over the years. The Tacumo was also supposed to be developed completely independently, but the Daewoo-Opel connection is still visible and visible in Korean products today. It's the same with Takumo. The exterior mirror switches are very similar in design to those of Opel, the same applies to the position of the easily accessible turn signal switch as it is located between the vents on the center console as well as the steering wheel cushion. very similar to those in the Opel.

The driving position is also quite favorable for taller people (enough headroom). The steering wheel is height adjustable and is quite vertical compared to some of its closest competitors. Despite the height adjustment, the upper part of the steering wheel obstructs the view of the upper part of the instruments. The driver's adjustable lumbar support is also too low. It is positioned so low that it actually rests on the pelvis and not on the lumbar spine.

Speaking of seats, let's focus on the spaciousness that the Koreans offered users with measured inches. The front seats will be bitter for long-legged people, as longitudinal centimeters are poorly measured due to the limited longitudinal seat backward movement, so the rear ones will be all the more grateful as they still have plenty of knee room with the seat fully reclined. In addition, the rear passengers also have ample headroom and, unfortunately, the overly positioned rear seat back is most annoying. As a result, he sits on his back in a partially reclined position, which is not the most comfortable.

Behind the back of the bench, as usual, there is a trunk. The Tacumi is mostly very stingy at just 347 liters, which is definitely below the class average (aside from the Zafira with all seven seats, which only offers 150 liters), so it sits at the very top in terms of flexibility. The back bench, which is divided in half, can be folded back or fully folded forward, but if this is not enough, it can be completely removed. The same can be done with the other half of the bench, and then we transport the already much more useful 1847 liters of air, which, of course, are easily replaced with luggage. However, the fact that things are not as dazzling as they seem at first glance, let us just remind you of the stepped shape of the bottom of the entire luggage compartment, which makes it difficult to transport larger items.

However, if there are still a lot of knick-knacks left and you don't know where to put them, look below and below the front seats. There you will find two more boxes. There are additional drawers on the sides of the trunk, huge storage space in front of the gear lever, and of course, there are four narrow pockets in all four doors. You also don't have to hold the cans in your hands, as you can place them in front of the gear lever (the position sometimes interferes with shifting), and in the back you will find holes for comfortable tables on the backrests of the front seats.

Looking at the price list, you first ask yourself: Aren't Koreans sometimes famous for their affordable prices? Well, the price is still in the lower range compared to the competition, and the base trim also offers a pretty decent amount of standard equipment. On the other hand, the Koreans in Tacuma have also "forgotten" about many of the shortcomings that spoil the overall impression, and this is where European competition surpasses them.

In the end, calm people can write that Daewoo Tacuma fulfills its main purpose to the smallest detail. That is, it moves passengers from point A to point B. But that's all. And this does not cause any special feelings. However, if you do not pay a lot for it and you need a lot of standard equipment, but at the same time, the increased noise level does not bother you much and you have saved almost 3 million tolars per pig, then you have no choice but to go happily. ...

evaluation

  • The price of Tacuma, unfortunately, this time surprises in a slightly worse sense than we are used to. There is still a lot of standard equipment installed, but there are also disadvantages. On the other hand, Daewoo Tacuma will undoubtedly fulfill its mission (the story of points A and B) without much difficulty. And if you take it as it is, you will probably be very happy with it.
