Engine 019 - learn more about the unit and the moped on which it was installed!

Romet 50 T-1 and 50TS1 were produced at the Bydgoszcz plant from 1975 to 1982. In turn, the 019 engine was developed by Zakłady Metalowe Dezamet engineers from Nowa Demba. We present the most important information about the drive and the moped!

Technical data of Romet 019 engine

At the very beginning, it is worth familiarizing yourself with the technical specification of the drive unit.

  1. It was a two-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, backflushed engine with a bore of 38 mm and a stroke of 44 mm.
  2. The exact working volume was 49,8 cc. cm, and the compression ratio is 8.
  3. The maximum power of the power unit is 2,5 hp. at 5200 rpm. and the maximum torque is 0,35 kgm.
  4. The cylinder is made of aluminum and equipped with a cast iron base plate and a light alloy head.
  5. The 019 engine also featured a three-plate wet clutch with buckle inserts. Then they were replaced with double discs with cork inserts, which were placed on the crankshaft.

The designers also decided on the connecting rod shaft and paw, which had rolling bearings, as well as a foot starter. The engine ran on a mixture of fuel and oil Mixol in a ratio of 1:30. It was also decided to suspend the drive unit in the frame thanks to two screws screwed into rubber bushings, which dampened vibrations during the operation of the 019 engine.

Gearbox, carburetor and combustion

The 019 engine also has a conveniently controlled gearbox with a footswitch. The overall transformation looks like this:

  • 36,3-th train - XNUMX;
  • 22,6th gear - XNUMX;
  • 16,07th train - XNUMX.

For trouble-free operation of the power unit, use LUX 10 oil in normal weather conditions, and -UX5 in winter.

How long does this car burn?

The drive is equipped with a horizontal GM13F carburetor with a 13mm throat, a 0,55mm fuel injector and a dry air filter. All this is complemented by a plastic suction silencer. The operation of two-wheeled vehicles is not expensive. Repairs and fuel consumption (2,8 l/100 km) are not expensive.

The 019 engine also uses an electrical system. The system was equipped with a three-coil generator with a voltage of 6 V and a power of 20 W, which was mounted on the left neck of the crankshaft under the magnetic wheel. Engineers from Nowa Dęba also installed F100 or F80 M14x1,25 240/260 Bosch spark plugs in the unit. 

Engine 019 - innovative solutions implemented in the unit

This power unit was the first to feature a three-speed gearbox as well as a foot-operated gearbox. Engineers also adapted the power to the requirements of the two-wheeled vehicle in which the unit was supposed to be placed - it was increased to 2,5 hp. 

This was achieved by increasing the volume of the crankshaft. The exhaust system and cylinder windows were also changed and a GM13F carburetor and thirteen tooth output sprocket was used. Thanks to this, it was possible to ride the Romet motorcycle safely and comfortably together.

Design measures that improved the quality of the 019 engine

Other ideas of the designers of the 019 engine deserve attention - these include the use of a clutch with a basket 2 mm higher than that of the two-disc version. A decision was also made for a pressure plate with 3mm higher crossbars, as well as two 1mm thick spacers. All this was complemented by the installation of a clutch together with a fixed gear with holes for the injection mode spline. 

Unit modifications

The 019 engine has also undergone several modifications. They concerned, for example, the clutch cover, where a version with a sheet metal plug instead of the starter shaft, a metal oil filler cap and the old clutch tappet was replaced by a new version. It was a filler cap, a plastic oil filler cap, and also the clutch pusher lever on the newer version.

As you can see, Dezamet's 019 unit had interesting design solutions. As a curiosity at the end, you can add that additional equipment was added to Romet motorcycles, including a pump, a tool kit, a bicycle bell and a speedometer with an odometer.
