Will e-bikes and e-scooters kill the combustion moped market? [DATA]

According to the latest data, sales of diesel two-wheelers and ATVs are declining in Europe. Vehicles under 50 cubic centimeters – mopeds – only achieved 2018 percent of sales in the first quarter of '60 compared to the same period in 2017! Electric bicycles (electric bicycles) and electric motorcycles are gaining momentum.

Scooters with a volume of up to 50 cubic centimeters (mopeds) fell by 40,2 percent. The entire market for mopeds, motorcycles and ATVs declined 6,1 percent from the same period last year. At the same time, the market for electric motorcycles, mopeds and ATVs grew by 51,2 percent (!).

The growth was mainly driven by electric motorcycles, which grew by 118,5 percent.and in France - as much as 228 percent! Of course, keep in mind that all these numbers are not comparable as they refer to different market segments.

It is assumed that The most serious blow to internal combustion mopeds came from e-bicycles, that is, e-bicycles.... They are close in price to combustion vehicles, offer similar performance in competitive variants, and at the same time are refueled “almost free” from the outlet. They also do not require insurance, driver's license or periodic technical inspections.
