Euro NCAP: the best semi-autonomous driving system? In the Mercedes GLE. Autopilot? Ideally, the worst of ...

Euro NCAP has tested driver assistance systems (ADAS) on various vehicle models. The best result was for the Mercedes GLE, the worst for the Tesla Model 3. Technologically, the most versatile turned out to be ... Tesla - its ratings, however, were underestimated “as a punishment”.

Euro NCAP: Mercedes GLE, BMW 3 Series and Audi Q8 shine

Euro NCAP took over semi-autonomous driving systems for the workshop, which appeared on the following car models (for convenience, we also provide a final note, source):

  1. Mercedes GLE - 85 percent, score very good
  2. BMW 3 Series - 82 percent, score very good,
  3. Audi Q8 - 78 percent, score very good,
  4. Ford Kuga 66 Percent Good
  5. Volkswagen Passat 76 Percent Average Rating
  6. Volvo V60 - 71 percent, average rating,
  7. Nissan Juke 52 Percent Average Rating
  8. Tesla Model 3 - 36%, average rating.,
  9. Renault Clio - 62 percent, rating: newcomer,
  10. Peugeot 2008 61 percent, rating: newcomers.

Tesla Safety Backup got a whopping 95 percent, while ranking leader Mercedes GLE got here. Lessbecause only 89 percent. Euro NCAP, however, decided that this would drastically reduce the model's ratings.because the name "Autopilot" and the manufacturer's advertising materials assume complete autonomy, which is not true.

> Tesla is disputed in Germany. For "Autopilot", "Fully Autonomous Driving"

Summing up for minus It was also recognized that there was no projector (HUD) that would display information right in front of the driver's eyes - and no active a camera looking inside and assessing a person's fatigue. When assessing its condition, only the feedback on the steering wheel is taken into account, that is, the ability of the car to "feel" that the driver is holding it:

Despite all these ailments, it was emphasized that Tesla excels when it comes to the skills it possesses electronicsbut when it comes to working with people, it looks bad. This means: driver intervention means that the autopilot is disabled. In the Mercedes GLE, the system agrees to temporarily take over human control (for example, to avoid an obstacle), and then continues to work.

In the ranking, Renault Clio and Peugeot 2008 show the worst performance. Both cars have driver support systems, but not all of them are thoroughly thought out. For example: when a person does not respond to an invitation to grab the steering wheel, the systems are disabled and the car ... continues to move.

However, in order not to leave an unfavorable impression on the last two models, we add that we could only dream of systems tested by Euro NCAP just 10 years ago.
