Fiat Panda 4 × 4 1.2 8v Climbing

Fiat says (or brags) that the Panda 4×4 is the cheapest 4x4 on the market. True, with a base price of eleven thousand euros, the Panda XNUMXxXNUMX is, at first glance, an excellent choice for those who urgently need four-wheel drive and a little more distance from the belly of the car to the ground. But only at first glance.

Pandina low price mainly because it is a small, cramped car with a very poor base package. If you want a well-equipped car, you will have to resort to the Climbing version, which is immediately 700 euros more expensive, then you will have to pay extra for ESP, side and window airbags, split rear bench, air conditioning (salted 800 euros), car radio.

And if you add up all the surcharges, you get the price is much higher like the one listed in the data sheet under the heading "Test car price". Such a panda will cost you just under 15 thousand - and for that kind of money, there is a large selection of much larger, more powerful, safer and more spacious cars in the used car market.

And these are cars that are not that old and with insufficient mileage to dissuade them from buying. In addition, they will also provide you with more driving comfort and performance as the Panda 4x4 is still acceptable or even below the lower limit.

You are unlikely to exceed the speed limit on the highway if it is at the level (we counted for this). 136 kilometers per hour, which is 9 kilometers per hour less than the promised 145 kilometers per hour), but "pleased" us only with acceleration, accelerating to 100 kilometers per hour in just over 18 seconds, which is two seconds better than promised at the plant.

Four-wheel drive is nothing special, but this year's snowy winter, combined with good, narrow winter tires, turned out to be practically no descent that the Panda could not handle. The only disadvantage of the field is weak motorwhich sometimes requires such a high speed of rotation of the throttle and the engine that it can exert forces that can damage the clutch.

So is the Panda 4×4 good enough for everyday use? If it only has two cars, if you don't expect real motorway capacity, and if you're willing to accept a price that, with normal equipment, already affects the lower-middle class car area, then yes.

But if you are ready to check out the offer of used cars, you will definitely find it there. the best choice.

evaluation

  • At first glance, the Pando 4 × 4 is notable for its low price and all-wheel drive. While there is nothing else to blame, for the price, when you put all the necessary additional equipment into the car, the fairy tale ends quickly.

We praise and reproach

ease of use in poor driving conditions
