Ford Mustang Mach-E test by Bjorn Nyland. The Norwegian tested the capabilities of the car with the largest battery and rear-wheel drive, the experiment took place in the summer, so in conditions close to optimal. He showed that the car has similar power consumption to MEB platform cars (VW ID.4, Skoda Enyaq iV) – so with a bigger battery it will go further.

Ford Mustang Mustang Mach-E - a real range in urban, suburban and road conditions

The car was tested on the smallest 18-inch wheels available. Before the start, the first curiosity arose: the car reported that the battery was 99 percent charged, and the scanner connected via OBD showed only 95 percent. At this level of battery charge, the vehicle's declared range is 486 kilometers. Mustang Mach-E XR with the driver weighed 2,2-2,22 tons:

Bjorn Nyland calculated that the battery capacity available to the driver is 85,6 out of the manufacturer's 88 kWh (total: 98,8 kWh). When driving at a speed of 90 km / h, the vehicle will overcome:

  • 535 kilometers with a battery discharge of up to 0 percent,
  • 481,5 kilometers with a battery discharge of up to 10 percent [calculated by www.elektrowoz.pl],
  • 374,5 km in a range of 80-> 10 percent [as above].

The information in bold tells us how many kilometers we would have traveled before we needed to find a charger. On the other hand, when driving around the city and its environs, we are interested in the last value or number in the range of 80-20 percent - 321 kilometers. It means that we can drive 46 kilometers every day, and it is enough to plug the car into an outlet once a week.

She was a little awesome low charging power... The manufacturer promises 150 kW, while the Mustang Mach-E has only reached 105-106 kW at 18 percent, which is the range in which it should accelerate to about maximum.

It turned out to be interesting to measure at a speed of 120 km / h (GPS). An app reading data from OBD reported that the car needs less than 27-28 kW (37-38 km) of power to overcome air resistance and maintain that speed. Nyland praised the car good sound insulation of the cabin and absence of airborne noise despite moving against the wind.

At this speed, the range of the Ford Mustang Mach-E was:

  • 357 kilometers with a battery discharge of up to 0 percent,
  • 321 kilometers when the battery is discharged to 10 percent [calculated by www.elektrowoz.pl],
  • 250 kilometers when driving in the 80-> 10 percent range [as above].

The first value confirms the rule that If we want to calculate the electrician's range in good conditions using the phrase “I'm trying to maintain a speed of 120 km / h”, simply multiply the manufacturer's WLTP value by 0,6 (for Ford: 0,585).

The second value tells us that going on vacation, you should start looking for a charger after driving about 300 kilometers. Thirdly, we must drive to the next charging station after we have traveled 550 kilometers. If we do not drive only on the tracks, but had to get to them - and we leave them to get to the resting place - it will be even more than 600 kilometers. Or about 400-500 kilometers if we want to go faster than 120 km/h.
