Hyundai Santa Fe 2.2 CRDi 8AT 4WD Impression // Winner

But then unlike this test Santa feyem it was not just a seven-seater car, we focused more on comparing it with competitors than on the classic test. And of course: in Spain we could not lure him into our normal circle. So what does Santa Fe look like when we, like all of our test cars, place it under a microscope?

It is best to start with the exterior: given its size, it is 4 meters and 77 centimeters long, works compactly and not too massively. Hyundai's new design language is harsh and rather aggressive, which is why the Santa Fe runs quite sporty as well, especially in the front. Some comments from those who saw it suggested that the designers might have been too daring, but still: Santa Fe's design stands out, and rightly so. But why do you need to get lost in the stream of rivals? And if you want a more casual design, but still the same technique, you can turn to the sister brand of the group from Korea.

And what about the interior? It's roomy - and the Santa Fe is definitely one of the best in its class. The longitudinal mobility of the rear bench, divisible by a third, is also standard, which means that you can increase the already huge trunk without folding it. There is indeed plenty of knee room in the back, and that's not at the expense of the overly limited longitudinal mobility of the front seats. Behind the wheel, a 190 (and maybe, given how much he is used to sitting, even more) centimeter-sized driver will also fit well, and the seats are quite comfortable. Even the center rear, which is just a bulge between two real seats, is nice (and comfortable) soft enough to be usable on even slightly longer rides. The only small minus the Santa Fe gets is soundproofing. The gust of wind around the body (as well as the noise from under the wheels) is too loud at higher (let's say German motorway theme) speeds.

Santa Fe also has digital gauges starting with tier XNUMX equipment (the test had the highest tier of Impression equipment), which is definitely a big plus. In terms of flexibility, they may not be at the level of some other brands, but they are more user-friendly than the classic counterparts, they are readable enough and offer the driver enough information. Everything else he finds on a large screen in the center of the dashboard and, most importantly, on a projection screen, and a real one, which projects data onto the windshield, and not onto additional windows in front of it. The system is excellent as it also very intuitively warns of vehicles in the blind spot, provides information on assistance systems, navigation and the like, but it is flexible and graphically organized enough not to overwhelm the driver with data and overflow. The speedometer (which is very important for us in terms of the amount of fines) is always in the forefront.

Connectivity is at a fairly high level: there can be four USB ports, the Santa Fe infotainment system has this function. Apple CarPlay cat Android Auto (and a wireless charger for mobile phones) and the system is transparent and intuitive enough. Of course, there is no shortage of safety systems: the Santa Fe is quite richly equipped at the lower equipment levels, and at the highest it has almost everything, and the optional package, which includes an automatic transmission (2.800 euros), includes an automatic transmission. cruise control, 360-degree cameras, blind spot monitoring and reverse parking assistance. Smart Sense, which also includes Safe Tailgate Alerts, Automatic Emergency Braking (with pedestrian and cyclist detection) and Lane Keeping Assist, are standard, and Impression also includes excellent auto-adjusting dual-band headlights. To keep from freezing in winter, the outer rear seats, the brand's audio system, are also heated. Krell however, serially and well. The infotainment system also has navigation, but that's not even necessary due to good connectivity.

Chassis: Comfort comes first. However, the Santa Fe is not a rocking boat, as it has slightly balanced suspension and damping action, which means less bouncing on long waves and when changing direction. Lego on the road can hardly be called sporty, but still: anyone expecting an anemic SUV for which cornering is a nightmare will be surprised. The Santa Fe handles itself very well in these conditions - slightly understeered, with reasonably well-controlled body roll and lean. It's the same with all-wheel drive: designed for safety, yet dynamic enough to satisfy any desire for better driving dynamics.

The Santa Fe is good enough on (almost) off-road terrain, it also has a speed control when descending, but it is worth keeping an eye on entering and exiting descents as the lower edge of its nose is close enough to the ground to occasionally "plow".

The Santa Fe mass engine is fully matured. 2,2-liter turbodiesel with 147 kilowatts or 200 "horsepower".paired with a sleek eight-speed automatic transmission, the Santa Fe is easy to drive. Consumption? Around the norm 6,3 liter, if not, calculate it to be between seven and nine liters, depending on the type of use. In the city this motor is not very popular, but on the highway it can be very moderate.

The Santa Fe has long been synonymous with a family SUV with plenty of equipment at a reasonable price. The new generation can also maintain this reputation for digitalisation and advanced assistive technology, as well as chassis as it becomes more European. Price ... This one isn't that low anymore. Test Santa Fe is officially $ 52k, but it's true that this is Santa Fe from the very top of the Santa Fe offering.... The best equipment, the most powerful engine, automatic transmission and the most additional equipment. Purely basic costs almost 20 thousand less, the middle way (in terms of equipment and motorization) is, of course, somewhere in between. But make no mistake: in this case, for 52 thousand you will get a huge car.

Overall rating (469/600)

  • The Santa Fe is a big step up from its big SUV predecessor.

which easily outperforms (and defeats) the competition.

  • Cab and trunk (85/110)

There is a lot of space, because Santa Fe can also have seven seats.

  • Comfort (95

    / 115)

    Soundproofing could be slightly better

  • Transmission (63

    / 80)

I like the big and powerful diesel, but not the cheapest and not the most

    ecological choice

  • Driving performance (76

    / 100)

For Hyundai and SUVs, the Santa Fe is surprisingly athletic in cornering.

the rest of the chassis is tuned primarily for comfort.

  • Security (95/115)

There is no shortage of assistive systems, the EuroNCAP test result is good

  • Economy and environment (58

    / 80)

Consumption is not the lowest, but in terms of size, weight, performance and all-wheel drive.

    this is expected.

Driving pleasure: 2/5

  • He is not an athlete or a real SUV. However, it is calm and comfortable and you can enjoy it a little.
