Infiniti unveils Qs Inspiration concept ahead of Shanghai

Infiniti says the Qs Inspiration Concept is a sedan, though it has two doors and SUV ground clearance.

Japanese luxury marque Infiniti has unveiled yet another concept in its Inspiration vehicle lineup, meant to be a preview of future electric models in the brand's lineup.

This car is distinctly different from the Q Inspiration Concept unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show early last year, featuring a two-door coupe body (although Infiniti calls it a "sedan") with raised suspension that Infiniti says gives it a "feeling of elevation and control." .

The previous Q Inspiration concept had a four-door hatchback body with a sporty low suspension.

Infiniti says the new Qs Inspiration concept has an electrified all-wheel drive powertrain; using parent brand Nissan's e-POWER technology, as shown in the Nissan Leaf's electric sunroof. Infiniti says Qs Insipiration "hints at an electrified future for the company."

This contrasts with the 2018 Q Inspiration Concept, which was powered by a turbocharged Infiniti VC-Turbo four-cylinder petrol engine.

Qs Inspiration's new direction is in line with the brand's other recent concept vehicle, the QX Inspiration SUV, which is also believed to use an electric powertrain. Infiniti hasn't revealed power figures for either concept, although it does mention that the electric motors will have "power and character."

Infiniti says the choice to make the new concept a sedan is because the body style has formed the backbone of the brand's lineup since its 1989 launch with the Q45.

The brand states that "the era of electrification provides us with an opportunity to renew our reputation as an innovative challenger brand."
