How to open a car with a dead battery in proven ways

A modern car provides its owner with a lot of amenities that were once considered insignificant or expensive. One of them is the ability to open a parked car by simply pressing a button on the key fob, or even without it, just walk up with a card in your pocket so that the car recognizes the owner and opens the locks.
But all such devices require power from the on-board network, that is, with the engine off, from the battery. Which is able to suddenly refuse, tritely discharged.
And getting into the car becomes a problem. A duplicate mechanical key does not always help.
What can cause a car battery to drain?
There are plenty of reasons for the emergency voltage drop at the battery (battery) terminals:
- loss of capacity due to natural aging, manufacturing defects or poor maintenance;
- failures due to internal breaks and short circuits;
- violations of the energy balance, the battery is more discharged than charged at low temperatures and short trips;
- long storage of the car, in the on-board network there are always non-switchable consumers with low power, but over a long period of time they “pump out” the battery;
- forgetfulness of the driver, leaving more powerful consumers, lights, multimedia, heating and other equipment on, with which cars are now oversaturated;
- high internal self-discharge current of a tired battery;
- external leakage through conductive dirt.
The result is always the same - the voltage gradually drops, after which a certain threshold will be crossed, beyond which not only the starter, but also the central lock with remote control or the security system will not work.
The battery could be recharged or replaced, but the hood opens from the passenger compartment, which is not accessible.
How to open a car with a dead battery
For car service masters, the problem is small, but they still need to be reached. Calling a specialist will be expensive, and this is not possible everywhere. It remains either also far from a free tow truck, or hope for one's own strength. There are ways.
Opening the lock with a key
The simplest thing is to use the mechanical key that came with the car. But this is not always realistic:
- not all cars, in principle, have such an opportunity;
- the key may be far from where the problem occurs;
- to protect against theft, some cars are artificially deprived of a mechanical connection between the key cylinder and the lock;
- with prolonged use of remote opening, the mechanisms turn sour and require repair, or even simply freeze.
In the latter case, spilling the lock through the larva with a penetrating universal lubricant can help. There are also many ways to defrost, the lock must be warmed up with one of them.
Opening the door
Many cars have a “soldier” near the door lock, with which the door is locked from the inside. It also shows the current state of the castle.
Even when it is not there, it is possible to lock it with the inside handle. It is enough to pull one of these devices, but access is only from the cabin.
A wire loop that can be made often helps. It is carried out through the door seal, for which the top of the side window frame must be slightly pulled towards you.
There is enough elastic deformation, after which there will be no traces, and the glass will remain intact. After a little practice, the loop can be put on the button and pulled to open.
Break glass
Destructive method. The glass will then have to be replaced, but in a hopeless situation, it can be donated. Break, as a rule, small triangular glass rear doors. They are hardened, that is, they are easily broken into small fragments from a blow with a pointed heavy object.
It is not even strength that is important, but its concentration in a small area. There are cases when glass crumbles from the throw of fragments of the ceramic insulator of an old spark plug, which has a high hardness, into it.
Power supply
If the on-board network is powered from an external source, the lock will work normally. The only question is how to get to it.
For a dead battery
If a short access path to the battery is known, then live wires can be connected directly to it. More precisely, only positive, minus is connected to the mass of the car at any convenient point.
Sometimes it is enough to slightly bend the edge of the hood or remove the plastic trim in the wiper blade drive area.
On the generator
If the generator on the engine is located below, then access to it is possible from the bottom. Interfering protection is easy to remove. The generator output terminal is directly connected to the battery. The same can be done with the starter, which also has a large cross-section wire connected to the battery.
The source must have sufficient power, since a discharged battery will immediately take on a large current. A significant spark discharge may slip through.
It is also dangerous to hook the mass of the car along the way, a dangerous arc discharge is formed that melts the wires. It is better to connect the bulb from the headlight in series with the source, if it is a battery.
Through the backlight
Not all cars, but there are some, allow you to connect to the power circuit of the lock through the contact of the license plate lamp holder.
Their advantage is ease of dismantling, usually the ceiling is held on plastic latches. There is also a connector in which it is necessary to determine the supply positive contact.
This is more likely to happen if the battery is dead due to the dimensions remaining on. Their switch will provide voltage in the opposite direction to the on-board network.
How to close a car
To close the central lock before disconnecting the battery, for example, if you plan to take it away for storage or recharging, you must first force the lock to work.
The engine is turned off, the ignition is turned off, but the key is not removed. After that, you can press the button on the door, the lock will work. The key is removed, the door is opened by the inner handle, and locked through the outer larva. The hood must first be opened.
You can remove the battery and slam the hood, the car will be closed with all locks. It opens after that with the same mechanical key. It is advisable to pre-check its work and lubricate if necessary.
