How to prepare a car for winter

In winter, driving a car, just like in summer, you can experience positive driving emotions. The main thing is to correctly approach the preparation of the car for difficult conditions so that you do not have a headache until the spring queues at the service station.

Here are some tips that can help you calmly meet sub-zero temperatures (we won’t talk about seasonal replacement, since this is the default job).

Fill winter wiper fluid

From the moment the air temperature drops below zero at night, do not interfere with the replacement of the glass washer fluid. If you do not do this on time, the water in the nozzles may freeze at the most inopportune moment. At best, the glass will remain dirty. At worst, dirt flying from under the wheels of a vehicle in front can cause a traffic accident.

Change oil

With regular maintenance of the vehicle, engine oil change is not required. However, if you have postponed maintenance, you should replace the oil to facilitate engine operation in harsh winter conditions. It is better not to save by buying dubious products, but to bet on its quality. While the car is in the pit, you can take a moment to check all the suspension systems of the car, as well as the battery.

Install new wipers

If you have not changed the wipers for the last 2 years, this is good to do before the winter. Over time, the rubber coarsens on them, because of which the brushes may not completely clean the glass. This is especially dangerous when it snows or because of a poorly cleared road there is a lot of dirt on it.

Protect the body

Before the start of the winter season, it is important to treat the car body with a special wax polish or liquid glass (if finances allow). This will help protect the paint from small stones and reagents.

Do not drive with an empty tank

Low fuel volume is a problem because the more empty space in the tank, the more moisture condenses inside. When the car cools down, the formed water crystallizes, which complicates the work of the fuel pump (or even disables it).

Lubricate rubber seals

It is good to lubricate the rubber door seals so that in the morning, if it was cold at night, you can easily get into the car. It is best to use silicone spray or glycerin. It is good to have in stock a spray for defrosting locks (for example, WD-40), but do not leave it in the glove compartment, but keep it at home.

Arm yourself from snow and ice

And finally: be sure to put the ice scraper, brush and folding spade in the trunk to remove snow and ice from your car. Cables for emergency engine start from the "donor" are also not superfluous. Some use a special spray that helps quickly remove ice from the windshield.
