How do autopilot cars work?

Cars that drive autopilotpromise to be a technological revolution in the automotive industry. The so-called autonomous vehicles came from the ideas of futuristic films, but in reality, they change our perception of urban transport systems.

It is very important to follow the technologies and principles of operation of these cars of the future, which have already become the present. In fact, it is expected that such cars will be widely distributed in Europe by 2022.

How do autopilot cars work?

Autopilot cars use a number of innovative technologies, high performance, which allow the car to identify obstacles on the road, recognize pedestrians and other cars, process certain traffic signs, “understand” the meaning of the direction signs and road markings, determining the most suitable option, how to move from one point to another, etc.

In order for everyone to control such functions, autonomous vehicles use advanced artificial intelligence systems, big data and the Internet of things. These technologies combine the use of both software and special equipment, for example, laser sensors LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging), which are able to perform 3D scans of the physical environment of the vehicle, while continuing to move.

Here are some of the key aspects you need to know abouthow cars work on autopilot:

  • All elements of autonomous vehicles are programmed to give response immediately while driving, all this works through a network of electrical signals, which allows the car to make its own decisions. These pulses control the direction of travel, the brakes, the transmission and the throttle.
  • “Virtual driver” is the main functional element of autopilot cars. This is a computer program that retains control of the car, as a living driver usually does. This software coordinates the work of various technological elements, for work in general, and also creates a safe route.
  • Cars that drive autopilot include several ways of visual perception, which allow the system to centrally “observe” everything that is around. For example, the LiDAR tool that we mentioned above, or any other computer vision mechanisms that exist today.

Although self-driving cars are still not perfect - they have many advantages that can be experienced in the near future, in addition, in most cases, self-driving cars have zero emissions.

Technological features of cars on autopilot

Here are the main technologies that cars use on autopilot:

  • Artificial vision systems. These are devices such as sensors and high resolution cameras that capture the physical environment of the vehicle. Some strategic locations for these systems are the roof and windshield.
  • Topographic vision. Tomography vision algorithms are those algorithms that process and analyze in real time, information and the location of objects in the vehicle’s double vision during your movement.
  • 3D . XNUMXD mapping is a procedure that is performed by the Autonomous Auto Central System to “recognize” the places it passes. This process not only helps the vehicle while driving, but will also help in the future because the XNUMXD terrain is registered and stored in the Central System.
  • Computational power. Undoubtedly, the Central processor of autonomous vehicles has great computing power, since they are not only able to convert the perception of the entire physical environment into digital data to be processed, but, as a rule, also analyze a lot of additional data, for example, selecting optimal routes for performing each of the routes.

Such automobile brands like Tesla Motors are not the only ones exploring the world of autonomous cars. In fact, technology companies like Google and IBM are taking some kind of initiative in this area. This is due to the fact that the technologies used in unmanned vehicles were born, namely, within the technological industry, and then switched to the automotive industry.

As a professional driver, you should know that unmanned systems cars are still very complicated. That is why their potential and activities continue to develop and improve, with the aim that these cars will soon come to mass use.

Hey there fantastic website! Does running a blog like this require a great
deal of work? I’ve very little knowledge of computer programming however
I was hoping to start my own blog in the near future.
Anyhow, if you have any recommendations or tips for new blog owners please share.
I know this is off topic however I just needed to ask.
    Thanks!
