What does the coloring process involve?
Painting of the car is carried out in boxes that are specially equipped for this business. Filters, heat exchanger, hoods - all this is a necessity for the operation of painting equipment.
The principle of operation is to create a zone with ventilation and includes the following work cycles:
- Air purification using a filter from exhaust air and paint residues.
- Car painting.
- Car drying.
Carrying out staining in these chambers has a number of advantages. Tightness guarantees protection against ingress of dust, objects that collect dust.
The design of the box assumes protection against falling unwanted air currents, drafts or dust. Interior surfaces are easy to clean as they do not require special care.
Both in the garage and in the basement, you can place equipment for painting work. If you do not have enough funds to purchase a ready-made box, you can always create it yourself.

Air ventilation systems

The main ventilation should ensure the removal of air from all points, if there are no dead zones, then the air is updated at least 8-10 times.
The ventilation system must be free of dust that affects the quality of the coating, and the incoming air must be free of paint fumes.
Spray booths come in two varieties:
- For single-motor systems, air comes from the top duct. Due to the incoming air, the paint mist is lowered to the floor and escapes through the holes from below.
- Dual-motor systems are equipped with motors located at the top, while at the bottom there is a motor responsible for extracting air.
Two motors can provide a more efficient result. This option will cost more, but justifies itself. Installation of such a system requires the help of specialists.
This option justifies itself if the number of machines for painting is large, otherwise it is more profitable to install one motor.
To remove air with dust, trenches are dug in the floor itself. If the floor is made of metal, then it is already raised, so you should not make trenches.
- Filters quickly become clogged, trapping air, so ventilation must regulate airflow.
- The filter should be conveniently located so that you can pull it out and clean it at any time.
Since the quality of painting is affected by the presence of dust, it must be minimized, which means that it is necessary to clear the room from rubbish in front of it, remove all carpets and rags.
The issue of fire safety must be given special attention, because fires regularly occur due to paints and varnishes.
In this regard, non-combustible materials should be used for finishing and thermal insulation. All things that are located inside should not be explosive.
If electrical appliances are used, then all of them must be grounded, and heat exchangers should be equipped with thermostats to prevent overheating. The room in which paintwork will be carried out must be equipped with a fire extinguishing system.
Lighting equipment
An equally important factor for painting a car is the lighting and appliances that are necessary for this. Lighting should be located not only on the ceiling, but also on the walls of the spray booth.
Lamps should be installed at a uniform distance, perpendicular to the floor. Lighting with fluorescent incandescent lamps will be more economical and efficient. On the body of the car, every particle will be visible.
Many people prefer to install LED lamps, which guarantee a bright and uniform light without flickering or other failures.
These devices can significantly save on electricity, because they are more economical than daylight. The painting chamber should be as consecrated as possible, even the smallest dust particles should be visible.
Dyeing equipment
The spray booth involves the use of such equipment:
- Spray guns are of several types - high and low pressure. For their operation, a compressor is needed, but low-pressure devices no longer work on compression.
- Airless type spray guns are electric and pneumatic.
- Combined equipment combines several options, it is very effective.
- The mechanical method involves immersing the elements in paint. It’s good if small parts can still be painted like that, but the body is already much more complicated, a specialized conveyor line is needed.
Of all existing methods, the most optimal is the use of airless equipment.
Paint particles are sprayed from the gun in the spray booth. The size of each drop directly depends on the size and shape of the nozzle, as well as the pressure itself.
The main advantages of airless equipment include:
- Significantly less use of the amount of paints and varnishes;
- Significant solvent savings, because this type of equipment can easily handle thick mixtures.
- With such equipment, it is enough to install single-engine ventilation, which is a guarantee of high-quality coverage of the car body.
If you constantly change color, then such equipment will definitely not work. It is used for one-time painting as a mini spray booth.
Each master independently determines which sprayer to use, but during the selection it is best to consult with specialists.
Painting equipment is selected taking into account criteria such as the size of the box and the type of ventilation.
Drying equipment
Like painting equipment, drying equipment can be completely different.
If the painting is one-time, then a simple system is quite enough, and if it is a constant use, then specialized equipment is indispensable:
1. Heat generators on any fuel are ideal for one-time painting. Such equipment runs on gas, diesel fuel or oil.
There are models of a heat generator that set a constant temperature level and maintain it.
2. In order to save on electricity and get high-quality drying, non-legendary infrared machines are used.
With this system, it is possible to carry out drying at the stage of ground work. At the same time, the process of staining itself is also accelerated, which allows the master to significantly save time.
After the paint on the car dries completely, it must be given time to settle. At the same time, it is worth turning on ventilation, such methods can speed up the drying of varnish and paint.
