How to register a car imported from Germany in our country? Management

The easy way to a new car from Germany

Importing cars from Germany is easy if you know where to look for them. Of course, you can take advantage of the offer of an experienced broker to buy a car imported into Poland on the spot. Remember that such a service costs money and you will certainly pay more for the car than if you bought it directly in Germany.

The alternative is to search for popular car classifieds websites and find real gems on sites such as:

If you have already found your Audi, BMW, Volkswagen, Mercedes or even Porsche model, it's time to bring it from Germany and register it in our country.

Departure by car from Germany - necessary documents

A car purchased abroad must have a set of necessary documents. You can bring a car from Germany to Poland on the basis of transporting the car on a tow truck or arriving with it on wheels. Some people cut costs in this second way by refusing to pay an outside company to import the car.

Remember that in our country it is impossible to register a car registered in Germany, but it is also impossible to drive a car without registration. What then? It rarely happens that the seller forgot to take care of deregistration of the vehicle. You only have to temporarily register the car abroad.

To do this, you need to contact the local communication department with a set of documents:

  • identity card or passport,
  • contract of sale,
  • vehicle registration certificate and vehicle card (if issued),
  • proof of purchase of short-term liability insurance,
  • important vehicle inspection.

You must also attach an application for temporary license plates. Most often they are called yellow plates, short-term, valid for 1-, 3-, 5 days. The whole procedure costs from 70 to 100 euros if the car has a valid MOT, or even twice as much if it needs to be done.

Attention! Before deciding to buy a car in Germany, check its VIN history. For example, use autoDNA, which is the main provider of used car history reports from Europe.
