To work with a dimensional part, a bath filled with zinc electrolyte or melt (temperature - 450 ℃) is used. This is galvanic and heat treatment, which is carried out mainly in factories. It is impossible to use the first method at home - you need a bath of impressive size and equipment for melting and centrifuging the material.

To carry out the procedure on your own, a cold treatment option using a sprayer filled with special paint is suitable.

You can also use zinc electrodes, which are supplied with current from the battery. A similar kit, which also includes a special fluid and a wire for connecting to the battery, is available at any car dealership. The cost is about 1000 rubles.

Which device is better to choose

It all depends on the size of the part to be galvanized:

  • if at home there is a large bath for filling with electrolyte and supplying current, then it is desirable to process body parts by galvanic method;
  • hard-to-reach elements of the machine without disassembly can be protected in a cold way - you need a sprayer or roller with which the solution is applied;
  • remove small "saffron milk caps" with a special set with electrodes.

At home, the most reliable method will be the first - galvanic, respectively, the preferred device for galvanizing a car body - a bath with a solution.

For high-quality galvanizing, the following recommendations must be observed:

  • Before applying a layer, the surface must be treated - remove rust and then degrease. The more detail the surface, the better the coating will lay down.
  • If the method with electrodes is used, it is advisable to buy wires for connecting to the battery in advance - the standard ones from the set are quite short, enough back to back.
  • The cold coating procedure should be carried out at a temperature of -10 to +40 ℃.
  • If the car owner used rust destroyers to treat the body, then it is advisable to wipe the part with a solution of soda and water - this way the excess chemical liquid will be removed from the body.
  • The bath must be resistant to acid - otherwise the liquid will corrode the container, and the solution will leak out.
  • To melt zinc, the material is placed in sulfuric acid, which is sold in any auto shop. For a liter of special liquid, 400 gr. metal.
  • Wear eye and skin protection such as goggles, long sleeves and gloves when working with acid.
  • It is important to make sure that the zinc dissolves in the acid and the reaction begins - add an additional piece. If no bubbles appear, the liquid is ready.
  • The wire connected to the battery must not come into contact with the solutions included in the kit. If this happens, then an unnecessary reaction will go - the set will have to be thrown out and start all over again.
  • In a situation where the paint is swollen in a problem area, then the area must be removed by carefully walking along the body with a metal brush.
