Kia e-Niro with a real range of 430-450 kilometers, not 385, according to the EPA? [we collect data]

There are reports from all over the world that the Kii e-Niro's range is 64 kWh. when driving slowly this is better than the EPA measurements show, and for the heat pump version it can travel over 400 kilometers on a single charge. The EPA procedure covers almost exactly 385 kilometers, which is at least 9 percent less than journalists travel around the world.

As mentioned, the EPA has set the e-Niro's range at 385 kilometers. We accepted this as a real value because our experience has shown that the EPA is the least flawed procedure when it comes to EV ranges in mixed mode.

According to the WLTP procedure used in Europe, the Kia e-Niro can travel 455 kilometers on a single charge.

Meanwhile, tests carried out around the world show that the car regularly covers 400+ kilometers on a single charge. And yes:

  • Inside, EVs averaged 270 miles, and once managed to cover 300 miles. So appropriate 434,5 i 483 km (a source),
  • in the Marek Drives test on the Warsaw-Zakopane highway, the car covered 418,5 km, while remaining 41 km in reserve; in fact: 459,5 km,
  • in the Bjorn Nyland winter test, the car traveled 375 km on battery, but winter and frost usually take about 20 percent of the mileage, which gives the result 469 km in better conditions,
  • A similar Kia e-Niro in Bjorn Nyland's summer test covered 500 km on a battery, which is still enough to get to the charger.

In all the tests described, the drivers moved calmly enough, in accordance with the regulations, or even a little slower than allowed by the signs.... However, this does not change the fact that the result is impressive: it suggests that the EPA's results were very conservative and underreported. Surprisingly, measurements made using the WLTP procedure, which typically skews the ranges upwards by about 8-17 percent, are closer to the truth.

It should be added that all tested vehicles were equipped with heat pumps. Heat pumps do not load the car as much as classic heating, when the temperature drops below 10 degrees Celsius, however, above 15 degrees Celsius, their effect is negligible. On the Kia e-Niro, the heat pump is located to the left of the cover marked "EV" and is not always present. We do not yet know if it will appear in the Polish configuration:

Price Kia e-Niro 64 kWh in Poland will probably amount to about 190 3 zł. However, there are speculations that it could be lower due to competition from VW ID.XNUMX.
