Cyber Wheel

Pirelli is enriched by the presentation of the Cyber Wheel. This is the first example of a tool wheel that was developed as part of Pirelli's ongoing commitment to innovation and value creation for car manufacturers.

The Cybe Wheel allows the rim to be used as a sensor that detects physical quantities and transmits them to the car. The system, in fact, overcoming the deformations arising from the movement of the vehicle, is able to assess the so-called forces on the hub. Thus, it can offer real-time information of primary importance to vehicle stability control systems; very important information about the forces that the car and the road exchange while driving.

The Cybe Wheel's circuitry consists of special sensors placed on the rim, electronically activated by radio frequency (RFID), and an antenna located in the wheel arch that measures deformations, converts them into forces and transmits them to the vehicle.

This will provide more accurate and sophisticated data that is useful for integrating safety systems such as ABS and ESP to improve road stability. The ability to monitor tire load in three dimensions will also allow for a better relationship between the tire and the road surface, helping, for example, to optimize traction control.
