Short test: Volkswagen white up! 1.0 (55 kW)

It's funny how numbers on paper can be questionable. Is 75 "horsepower" enough even to get the car decently out of town? Is a 242cm wheelbase enough for an average adult driver, say, about 180cm tall, to squeeze into a car like this? How about a trunk with a volume of only 251 liters?

These are quite legitimate questions or even doubts, because the car is still considerable, and subtlety is the limit when it can become too small.

Well, after a few days of use, it became clear that the car has incredibly balanced space inside, and even in the small trunk, thanks to the double bottom, you can store a lot of things.

For this class, comfort is at the highest level, and a driver who is 190 centimeters tall can easily get behind the wheel. In fact, it's like taking some internal measurements from a larger Volkswagen Polo or even a Golf. The adjustable seats provide sporty traction, but they are not sporty and are one of the highlights of this carefully fitted steering wheel toddler. So anyone looking for a small but spacious car for a regular driver and front passenger can safely take part in the Up! 'S.

Inside we also find plenty of storage space for small items, which will surely appeal to women who can appreciate this feature even more than men. The interior design is an interesting mix of spartanism and youthful playfulness, and while it doesn't boast a long list of accessories, it's the freshness and pleasant passenger space that convinces us. Less, if, of course, measured in the right measure, maybe more, because the final impression and use is what really matters. Despite the spartanism of Up! it has navigation or a touch-screen media that the younger ones call a TV. This gives the interior of the car the feeling that, despite the lack of plastic or textile upholstery, you are not sitting in a cheap van. There are also many correct color choices on metal and plastic parts that are the same inside and out.

Volkswagen Up! it is also surprising in terms of driving performance. Despite its modest engine, the car is known to be light. The three-cylinder engine does a great job on the road, weighing just over 850kg, and the precise gearbox helps a lot too. It is true, however, that when four adults are seated in it (those in the back will sit more for strength), the engine feels very little. But let's say such trips are likely to be an exception, and for such exceptions the car will still be perfectly correct. Last but not least Up! designed as a city car for comfortable transportation of the driver and front passenger.

Load is also shown in fuel consumption, our lowest was 5,5 liters, but real, with a lot of city driving, showed an average of 6,7 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers.

In financial terms, the car is economical, since for a little over 11 thousand it brings pleasant comfort, benevolence at the sight and, above all, greater safety for this class. In addition to its excellent road position and, as a result, a good driving feel, it boasts a standard city safety system that automatically stops if it detects a risk of collision while driving in the city.

It can be called small in external dimensions, but large in equipment, safety and comfort. So if you call him baby, he might be a little offended.

evaluation

  • Everything designed for the driver works great and we were impressed. Despite being small on the outside, it has grown entirely on the inside, and as long as you have enough driver and front passenger seats, it provides amazing comfort and ample room for a city car.

We praise and reproach
