Short test: Opel Corsa 1.3 CDTI (70 kW) Ecoflex Cosmo (5 doors)

Before you look at a price list that makes different people feel differently, this is on paper. one of the best cows: with five doors, well-equipped and with an economical turbodiesel. This is probably what most typical Corsa or subcompact buyers want.

And with (such) and we would not have missed a lot. She also had a lot of time proved with usIt is easy to access, that it is perfectly decent to sit and drive, that it is easy to drive and park, that it has a lot of storage space (actually much more than many larger cars) and that it is not big enough drive a lot with your family out of town or even on vacation.

The motorcycle is a real thank you in this car. Right not very powerfulYes, that's true, but it is perfect for day trips, as it is rather uneven up to 70 kilometers per hour, and when driving on vacation with a fully loaded trunk, people generally do not go on time anyway. Its excellent and commendable too stop and restart the system (Stop & Start) that works really flawlessly, quickly and smoothly. At the moment, even better than with some three times more expensive car with a more glamorous name. Combined with this, we only missed the green up arrow that is on the indicators and we have never seen it light up.

A bit of a worrying point about the engine is that the electronics itself, when the driver shifts into first gear while stationary, appears to increase the engine speed slightly. You get used to it, but it makes you think. The likely reason for this is a transmission with only five gears, which cannot fully cover the speed range of the engine's torque curve. Simply put: first gear too longso it's hard to implement. Even the mentioned increase in speed does not help when starting uphill and God forbid, even with a loaded car.

In fact they too long all gear ratios (which is the ideal result of the downward trend in consumption), but with other gears, luckily we can always downshift one. Except for this unfortunate first ... And another practical consequence of such a too long gear: we often have to shift into first gear, when otherwise we go into second.

However, the engine has enough torque at 1.500 rpm to pull well from there even in fifth gear (which means 80 kilometers per hour!). I speak beautifully, not sportily! And so they “raped” the differential for too long economical engine; on the on-board computer, we read the consumption of 2,8 liters per 100 kilometers for 60, 3,6 for 100, 4,8 for 130 and 6,9 for 160 kilometers per hour. These are also very good numbers, even our test consumption was modest. 6,4 liters per 100 kilometers, the deviations from this average were very small.

So the mechanics are basically very good, partly it's also a matter of (shorter) time for a person to get used to it. But the Corsa, in many ways, has no excuse given how old it counts. upset... This is more or less a trifle, but still. Exterior mirrors for example, they give too small a picture. after trunk: only the back comes down, okay, but the only light is placed so low on the side that the first bag covers it. And it’s as if she’s not there.

Air conditioning problem: yes (in the cold) does not start heating the cabin for a long time, the point is in every diesel engine, and in a small car, do not put additional heaters, okay, but when it starts to blow in warmth, it blows into the driver's right leg almost prepares it, but the left one may still be able to When it's hot or just warm outside, the air conditioner is very cold and blows hard into the heads of the front passengers. And therefore, the system settings need to be constantly corrected! We are talking about an automatic mode, for which we, of course, paid. 240 euro.

Also inconvenient: diesel shakes, and we know it's harder to fix in a small car, but so vibrations like a rumble the cabin in this Corsica is rather uncomfortable, and at a speed of 130 kilometers per hour, the interior mirror still shakes. It is very light, but enough to recognize the image in it, only objects in a rough form.

And, finally, about the new acquisition of Corsa - an audio navigation device. Touch & Connect... In theory, the thing is excellent, navigation, color touch screen, USB-input, bluetooth, practice also reveals disadvantages. The device is set to lower part of the center console. Ergonomics, among other things, says that all visual information should be located as close to the eyes as possible, but Opel neglected this. About a quarter of a meter higher is not only a very good place for such a screen, but even for a screen that we at Corsa have known for a long time.

So why two screens, why didn't the novelty in colors simply replace the monochrome "old times"? Perhaps also because on this antique at the top the driver sees in any light, and on the novelty below - only in the absence of the sun. So now the top screen is just for more air conditioning installation ... The reason for this installation is almost certainly due to the cost that would result from changes to the wiring and, as a result, adjustments to the production line, but please, this Touc & Connect is costly 840 euro!! It would be better and cheaper for the Corsa to set up a mobile Garmin, TomTom, or something similar.

Yes, it's true, all of the aforementioned shortcomings are trivial and largely a matter of habit for many, but some of them Corsa has made up for with an "upgrade" that in this case really deserves a quote. And what you see in the pictures, the price list is more than 17 thousand euros. Only the color "Guacamole" is worth it, which is otherwise pleasing to the eye, but in layman's terms only a slightly greenish off-white. 335 euros extra!

No, years cannot be an excuse for this. Something needs to be done here.

evaluation

  • Yes, this Corsa has quite a few shortcomings that deserve some serious technical attention. From the point of view of a user who knows how to get used to many flies, such a Corsa can be a very useful and pleasant car. The only thing I don't care about is (positive) emotions.
