Short test: Seat Leon ST 1.6 TDI (77 kW) Style

It is difficult to find weak points in the aforementioned domestic competition, but most observers from our editorial office and passers-by on the road let their eyes know that they liked the new Leon. Also, with the base boot of the family version increased to 587 liters, the charming roundness of the front continues towards the rear. And fear not, they have not sacrificed usability over the appeal of the phenomenon, as the ceiling is still far enough away and the trunk has no distracting edges at the bottom. Already see, but what can you see? This is due to the headlights, which are completely LED technology.

So not only daytime running lights, but also night lighting front and rear. The only downside to this system is that it is an accessory, as you have to check the LED packaging section when purchasing and give an extra 1.257 euros to the smiling seller. The amount is not small, but in the long run (given the greater safety, comfort to the eyes, economical operation and modest operating costs) it is definitely worth considering buying. The same goes for the Design package, which includes 17-inch alloy wheels, front and rear parking sensors, optional tinted rear windows and Media System Plus: when you have to deduct an additional 390 euros (special offer!), you buy mine in the first place, but you will get that money back, at least to a certain extent, when you sell used. You know, big wheels are better (but they don't contribute to a more comfortable ride!) And parking sensors are a must for such a big car, and without a modern infotainment system, we don't know and can't live anymore.

And in the future, connectivity will become even more prominent. The 1,6-liter turbodiesel engine is one of the weakest, but also more economical. In a Chinese restaurant, this is briefly referred to as sweet and sour sauce, as it has quite a few advantages, but there are also some disadvantages. Undoubtedly one of the advantages is fuel consumption, as on a standard lap, on a longer route, mostly on the track, we used only 4,3 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers on a standard lap, as well as a modest 5,2 liters. There is only one weakness, and that is anemia (in Slovenian anemia, although here we mean greater immunity to accelerator pedal commands) at lower revs. This disadvantage is most pronounced when driving at intersections, when at low speeds we begin to accelerate to a new street, and when the city is crowded, when it is necessary to start several times or accelerate a little in a column.

But interestingly, even though it only has a five-speed gearbox, we did not miss the sixth one due to too much noise on the highway (at 130 km / h, the engine spins at 2.500 rpm!), But we would have an additional gear only because because the first is shorter. Then the engine probably wouldn't be so unrequited anymore, but on the other hand, the price of the car would certainly not be so favorable. The ergonomics of the driver's workplace are at the highest level, there were no comments on the quality, and the touch screen in any case belongs to a modern car. Even with a heavier boot, when we took advantage of the spacious cargo area, there were no seats in the back, and the chassis was not uncomfortable despite the large wheels. In short, the 27 centimeters lengthening of the body compared to the five-door version has been entrusted to a noble (family) mission, and we also believe in additional customers.

  • The Seat Leon ST has 18 liters less luggage space than the technically very similar VW Golf Variant, but it convinces with its fresh design and LED lighting. Have we mentioned the best price?
