KTM 790 Adventure R // Resna avantuRa

This is a true adventure bike with rally DNA in its DNA, as it belongs to the Dakar family of special stages, which, they say and write, have won 19 consecutive victories in the toughest endurance race in the world in continuous series. KTM started with twin-cylinder engines for the Dakar back in 2002, when Italian Fabrizio Meoni won with the LC8 950 R special and a replica went into series production a year later. Today, the KTM 950 and 990 Adventure are a highly coveted "advantage" among motorcyclists going on serious adventure expeditions, as it is essentially a large enduro bike with good suspension, powerful engine and huge fuel tank, which is exactly the same as in the factory. motorcycle. The current KTM 1290 Super Adventure R or 1090 Adventure R, which somehow continued this story, differs from its predecessor here, in the fuel tank. While these are bikes that are also very good in the field, KTM found it was time to make a bike that was more radical in the field while still able to comfortably carry the rider and all their luggage to the finish line. ... road and terrain. Why is this introduction important? So that you understand what the new KTM 790 R brings.

It has more than enough power for the road and off-road, with a light dry weight of 189 kilograms and 94 "horsepower", backed up by a beautiful continuous engagement curve and 88 Newton-meters of torque, these numbers are very close to the factory race car they are driving. won the Dakar Rally in 2002. With a seat height of 880 millimeters from the ground, this bike is not for inexperienced riders, but for those who know well what it means to ride while standing and who does it. do not need leg assistance to ride on difficult terrain.

If you are one of those who are not afraid of the earth, then the 790 Adventure without the letter R at the end will be much better.

There, the suspension is shorter and the seat is much lower, and is also suitable for beginners or even women who would like to dive into the world of an adventure motorcycle, but for safety reasons would like to reach the ground with their feet. In short, this beast is not for the faint of heart, but it needs to develop its potential, a determined driver with a lot of knowledge. The Adventure R easily pulls up to 200 both on the road and (be careful !!!) in the field. And at speeds above 100 kilometers per hour, mistakes on the field are severely punished. The motorcycle responds immediately to throttle, as everything is controlled by the computer, and the level of control for rear wheel slip in the Rally program depends on how much power is transmitted to the ground. During the test, I was set to level 5 most of the time, which turned out to be able to idle on gravel, so the bike glides well around corners, and on the other hand, there is no loss of power and dangerous excessive rear end. who could have run away too. Only on sand should the system be completely shut down, because otherwise there will be excessive electronic interference in the transmission of power to the rear wheel. However, the control of the beast, which weighs over 200 kilograms, when it is completely "cleared" becomes obvious when it is necessary to stop. The center of gravity is favorable because most of the 20 liters of fuel is distributed at the bottom, thus solving the problem of centralizing mass, as in the Dakar racing cars, but nevertheless this mass must be stopped. And here the suspension and, above all, with the brakes are faced with a difficult task. It brakes perfectly, I was helped several times by a very well-functioning ABS, which did not allow my front wheel to slip and slide under me on the gravel in a turn, and in the rear I was driving all the time with the ABS disabled, which helps when braking when side sliding, helping the motorcycle unfold. It turns out that the suspension does even the toughest work. The front and rear are completely off-road and measure 240 millimeters. The front fork is the same as on the EXC racing enduro models and the same goes for the PDS rear shock. This way the bike responds quickly to direction changes and also softens bumps so that the wheels are in good contact with the ground. The rims are robust, with 21 "front and 18" rear enduro sizes suitable for tubeless tires. Although we drove very fast, in some places on rubble more than 150 kilometers per hour, which, believe me, is already very adrenaline and dangerous, we did not puncture a single tire. However, since speed and mass increase exponentially with increasing force on the bike and the rider, I must point out that you cannot open the throttle on the ground. Several times the steering wheel shook me left and right, and I can only thank the concentration, strength in the arms and legs and my experience for not shaking with the engine on the ground at a speed of about 100 kilometers per hour. The problem is the irregularities that follow each other. On an enduro or all-terrain bike, you just pick it up last, or with the suspension and whole-body response, you soften it up or help the bike skip it all. Well, on the 790 Adventure R, it's a lot more difficult because once the bike starts bouncing or pumping, you simply can't handle it well enough anymore because the masses or forces are too great.

Adventure R has standard equipment. In addition to quality components (WP suspension, aluminum enduro wheels, hand guards, large digital display), you get ABS rear wheel traction control with tilt sensor and four engine programs as standard. The test car also had an Akrapovic exhaust system for a little more power and great sound, a quickshifter for effortless shifting when accelerating, and a trunk for the topcase. The price range is quite high, especially considering that this is a motorcycle that belongs to the upper middle class in the Adventure category and somehow puts itself in the ranks of Japanese and European competitors; it also surpasses this in some areas, as with its seriousness and uncompromising packaging it actually creates its own segment.
