Medicines and energy drinks - then don't drive

Medicines and energy drinks - then don't drive If you are taking medication, make sure you can drive. Many drugs impair concentration and cause drowsiness, which can lead to an accident.

According to Polish law, a driver cannot drive a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The police can check their content on the road during a scheduled inspection. The rules are no longer so precise when it comes to drugs, which, however, can have an equally bad effect on the driver's body.

Among the drugs that pose a particular danger to drivers, we should first of all name hypnotics and sedatives based on chemicals. – These drugs cause drowsiness, reduce concentration and slow down the reaction to stimuli. And then the driver is not able to adequately respond to what is happening on the road. Therefore, information about possible actions that make it difficult to drive a car can be found, for example, in the information sheets attached to such details, says Lucyna Samborska, head of the pharmacy chamber in Rzeszow.

You should also be very careful with antiallergic drugs, especially the old generation. They can also make you sleepy. Various types of alcohol-based tinctures are also dangerous. Depending on the composition of such a product, the driver may even want to drink a glass of vodka after it. “Therefore, when buying medicines, you should always ask the pharmacist how to use them and what undesirable effects they may have,” says Samborskaya.

Keep track of your connections

Medications combined with guarana-containing energy drinks, which are popular among drivers, are also a very dangerous combination. It is a plant substance that interacts strongly with many synthetic drugs. - An explosive mixture with guarana is, for example, antirhinitis drugs containing ephedrine. We also do not combine an energy drink with antiepileptic drugs and a number of other drugs that act on the central nervous system, emphasizes the head of the pharmacy chamber in Rzeszow.

However, most popular over-the-counter pain relievers in pharmacies or gas stations do not affect driving in any way. They mainly contain paracetamol, acetylsalicylic acid or ibuprofen, which are safe for drivers. Be careful with drugs with codeine (antitussives, painkillers).

You should be careful with drugs that additionally contain barbiturates and benzodiazepines that act as hypnotics. Cold medicines sold in sachets also have an extra dose of caffeine. They can also overexcite the driver.
