Lexus integrates digital mirrors in ES 300h

Outdoor cameras are equipped with defrosting and drying systems

Buyers of Lexus, Toyota's premium brand that chooses the ES 300h hybrid sedan, will now enjoy the comfort and safety offered by digital mirrors.

The Japanese manufacturer actually installed high-resolution cameras on the ES 300h instead of traditional exterior mirrors, the images of which are transmitted to the 5-inch screens located in the cabin on the windshield. The advantage provided by digital mirrors concerns both driving comfort and passenger safety, as they provide better visibility and eliminate blind spots.

External cameras, which are equipped with defrosting and drying systems, as well as anti-glare sensors (ideal for night driving), can also be removed when the car is stopped. Inside, two screens that transmit images from the camera offer different framing (for parking maneuvers), as well as driving assistance, offering virtual lines indicating the movement of the car (when parking) or a safe distance to follow on the road and highway.

Digital mirrors are not new to the Lexus, the ES 300h sold in Japan has already been equipped with this technology since 2018, and digital mirrors will be available in the European market with the Executive version.

Customers interested in this technology will be able to find it at the Lexus booth at the Geneva Motor Show from March 5 to 15.
