Mazda3 1.6i TX Plus

As if there would never be a year when they were known solely for their quality. Mazda3 is not a boring car at all. We would even dare to say that he is the bravest among the limousines of his class. Just look at its front end, how aggressive it is, or at the heavily accentuated front fenders. Ah, what can I explain - the front end is like a hatchback.

We prefer to go back. It only reflects the true character. The designers have done a great job. The rear of the roof has been pushed back far enough so that the sedan does not lose dynamism compared to the five-door version. This was further accentuated by modern headlights deep in the rear fenders, a discreet spoiler formed by the boot lid, accentuated hips and a black lower bumper that yawns the exhaust pipe and the story worked.

But at the same time, the originality has not yet affected the latter. If you want to open the boot lid and don't have a key on hand, you have to work hard before you find the button. Probably, you will not have it at all, and you will accept the fact that it simply does not exist, like some representatives of the automotive world. Not true, it's a button, just hidden away in the third brake light.

There can only be one reason why you'd prefer a hatchback over a sedan - a more useful trunk. Right. However, it is true that the sedan basically offers you more luggage space, by as much as 90 liters (430 l), which, as with the five-door version, can also be expanded if necessary with a split and folding rear seat. . But the opening in the wall separating the trunk from the passenger compartment is rather shallow, the height of the trunk is determined by the lid, and the trim is even less convincing than the Mazda3 Sport. But you get, as we said, 90 liters more, and this should not be forgotten.

Otherwise, everything is exactly the same as the Sport. The instrument panel is new and fresh. Otherwise, more demanding people will miss out on some item made from more precious materials than you'll find, but that's honestly not a concern. The front passengers sit perfectly. To increase the rating, the driver's seat should be lowered another centimeter, and the steering wheel closer to the driver. There will be enough space in the back for two adult passengers.

So we can give top marks to the gearbox (although it's only a five-speed) and brakes (in our measurements we stopped at 100 km / h on a relatively short 37 meters) without hesitation, if you're not overly demanding, you might also be impressed with the steering wheel. This one really isn't as accurate as the cuddly MX-4 roadster, and it's not quite as communicative either, but with the power that the test Mazda hid in its nose, we wouldn't expect that either.

The 1.6 MZR engine is the most basic unit on offer, as well as one of two petrol units available to you. Whoever manages the MPS will have to wait a bit. But if you're looking for a car that's fun to drive, the 1.6 MZR might impress you. Despite the relatively small displacement, which is 145 Nm of torque at only 4.500 rpm, in the lower working range it reacts surprisingly sovereignly to the driver's commands. Largely thanks to a well-calculated gearbox, but also due to the relatively low weight of the car (1.170 kg), which Mazda engineers managed to achieve.

You really only know it's a base unit when you fully depress the accelerator pedal. At the time, bumps are not something the bigger 2-litre engine or any of the diesel engines can handle, and you'll have to upshift a bit earlier (in terms of speed), but still ride with this Mazda. even when you're on the track, it's still nice. At 0 km / h in fifth gear, the tachometer stops at around 130 and the noise in the cabin is quite tolerable.

Do you think that the size or, on the other hand, the usability of the trunk is not the only thing that will decide when buying a Mazda3 or Mazda3 Sport? Let's whisper something to you: there is no difference between them, as shown by our measurements.

evaluation

  • Finally, those who appreciate limousines and dynamic forms at the same time will now be satisfied. The Mazda3 designers have done a really great job. The trunk is also larger compared to the hatchback, although, on the other hand, is less useful. But these are also the only real differences between the two versions of the new Mazd3. Even by our measurements, they achieved exactly the same results.
