Mazda6 SPC CD163 TE Plus

Sure, we love the Mazda6 with the 2-liter petrol engine, but our feelings for it are cooled by its rather high maintenance costs. Would petrol be 5. or 1.8? Hmm, not enough energy to bring a smile to your face. Diesel?

Hmm, pretty powerful, but they don't wear a tie like some of the competition. They lack sophistication. Well, they missed it, as now there is a completely new weapon under the hoods of the six: a 0-liter two-liter diesel engine in three power options.

Longer strokes, shorter connecting rods, a new aluminum bottom, a stiffer block, chain-driven anti-vibration shafts, a valve chain instead of a belt, and a bunch of new features on paper promise significant improvements.

And what about practice? On a cold enough morning, nothing interesting at the first turn of the ignition key. The preheat is short enough not to take too long, and the sound is usually diesel. The new 2.2 CD163 also rumbles, but don't worry, neighbors don't need to splash cold water on you.

We start, the engine from meter to meter is approaching the desired operating temperature, persuasion can begin. The new CD proves it can be used for leisurely idling, it easily follows traffic with a tachometer between 1.500 and 1.800 RPM, and at higher revs it just comes alive.

Up to 3.000 rpm of torque ensures that the electronics that monitor the drive wheels are fully engaged without feeling too much power. We recently tested the Six wagon with the previous otherwise weaker diesel engine (CD140), so the comparison was not difficult: the new one is more generous in power and therefore more useful in the lower rev range, as well as the transition to full liveliness. the area is softer.

Buyers of such a motorized six will definitely like this dampness. Even with a new diesel engine, one should not ignore the typical history of gas oil lovers, which is reflected in sufficient energy supply only in the range of 1.800 to 2.000 rpm (which is most obvious with quick commissioning), when even such a Mazda breathes with a full charge air cooler. but does not even catch his breath when entering the red field of the tachometer.

However, the transition from "moderate will" to "enthusiasm" is less pronounced and almost imperceptible.

CD163 can be used in two ways. Starting from the second third of the revs and up for a pleasant dynamic ride, which is also supported by a beautiful six-speed gearbox (short and very precise movements of the gear lever), or just lazy with the gear lever and drive the car calmly. one and a half thousand revolutions.

There is enough torque for this practice. When the CD163 heats up, it shows itself in front of the replaced device, making it even quieter. On the highway 130 kilometers per hour (sixth gear, about 2.250 rpm) is practically inaudible, but for eardrums it is still comfortable even at 150, 160.. km / h.

While waiting for a red light and the radio turned off, the new CD does not hide its diesel origin, but here Mazda has taken a step forward as the device is quieter and less vibration. Consumption? Engineers who have increased the engine's power say this unit is less thirsty than its predecessor.

We did not make a direct comparison in the test, so we will not judge, but the data of 7, 7 and 11 liters per 5 kilometers are clear enough for the driver to know what he can do with such a Mazda, which weighs more than one and a half tons without a driver, passengers and luggage. , he generally counts.

The trip computer, which, incidentally, is so awkwardly set up that you have to assign someone to another job, also shows an average consumption of more than 15 liters when driving fast and less than six when "driving" in the countryside.

At first glance, the price of the Sport Combi CD163 TE Plus should take your breath away, but the passion for competition is certainly reassuring, especially since Mazda is also richly equipped in this configuration with good motorization. I would especially like to mention the sound system.

The only thing we would add is parking sensors, as the rear is long and opaque at the bottom. Otherwise, it boasts a very reliable and predictable position, a comfortable chassis (if road users have repaired holes in the same way as this six) and tuned mechanics, like from a manual. With the new turbodiesel, Mazda will surely add a new stone to the six's successful image.

evaluation

  • While the previous generation of CDs was good, the new one is so much better that the six has only one answer to the question of which engine to choose: diesel. We see no reason to go for the more powerful (CD185) version, as it is already powerful enough yet sleek enough to make a van.

The Mazda6 (with the help of other mechanics) is a very nice car.
