Test drive less or less - Opel Agila and Corsa

Brothers and sisters of the same brand - Ford Ka and Fiesta, Opel Agila and Corsa, as well as Toyota iQ and Aygo will fight in family matches.

Are cheap and well-designed minivans a full-fledged alternative to overshadow the life of classic small models? In the second part of the series, ams.bg will present you with a comparison of the Opel Agila and the Opel Corsa.

Economy economical

Where did the cheap little cars go? Even if you subtract the state premium offered in Germany of 2500 euros for a retired old car, here the prices for the diesel versions of the Agila and Corsa are well over the 10 euro limit. Things are different with the base petrol variants – the Agila is available from €000 and up, while the four-door Corsa with 9990bhp is available. village - from 60 euros. Even with diesel engines and expensive Edition equipment, only the Corsa can be fitted with additional safety devices such as turn lights and crossroads; In addition, window airbags and ESP are standard. Since both items in the Agila cost an additional €11, its price advantage over comparable equipment is reduced to around €840.

This difference does not seem significant when it comes to prices around 17 euros, and therefore the Agila's chances to race are reduced. It can only perform the functions of the only family car to a limited extent, although it is not without practical talents - with four high doors, the model offers comfortable entry and exit, and inside it even surpasses its older sister in terms of spaciousness and comfort. sitting. And thanks to the large tailgate with a low lower threshold, the trunk is easier to fill.

Elder sister

The dimensions of the Corsa bring advantages not in terms of the space offered, but in terms of traveling long distances. The best soundproofing successfully protects the cabin from the roar of the engine. The differences in road handling with a full load turn out to be more stark - it's not very large for both machines, but in the Agila the suspension forces the suspension to completely stop its already modest efforts to mitigate shocks. When the accelerator enters a corner hard, the car responds by offering rear end and despite ESP intervention, when the road surface is too bad, it forces the driver to compensate for deflection with the steering wheel.

In dynamic tests, the Corsa is more than one class better, staying relatively neutral until it hits full understeer. Even when loaded, the car retains much of its much more comfortable suspension.

The conclusion is clear

Because Opel equips the Corsa with a transmission capable of handling up to 170 Nm of torque, the same 1,3-liter diesel produces 20 Nm less than the agile Agila. In the Corsa, the direct injection engine shuts down easily at startup and crawls sleepily out of the turbo hole. But in terms of consumption, both models are modest, and according to official data, they are content with even 4,5 liters per 100 km. This ensures low CO2 emissions and therefore low taxes in Germany. Other fixed costs are also at about the same low level.

If you're looking for a full-fledged diesel model as the only vehicle for a family, there is no reason to choose the Agila over the Corsa. The same is true if you are looking for a second family car with an economical diesel.

Evaluation

1. Opel Corsa 1.3 CDTi Edition

Despite the sluggish engine, the Corsa is well ahead of its little sister. The car impresses with improved safety features, more stable roadholding and comfort, all at a slightly higher price point.

2. Opel Eagle 1.3 CDTi Edition.

A more pleasant feeling of internal space and an easy perception of dimensions are arguments in favor of the temperamental Agila. But safety gaps and poor suspension performance at full load keep it behind the Corsa.
