We change the oil in the automatic transmission, transfer case and gearbox VW Touareg on our own

Any vehicle, even the most reliable one (for example, Volksagen Touareg), has its own resource, parts, mechanisms and consumables gradually lose their qualities, and at some point may become unusable. The owner can extend the life of the car by timely replacement of "consumables", coolants and lubricating fluids. One of the most important components of the car - the gearbox - also requires periodic oil changes. During its existence, the Volksagen Touareg has changed several types of gearboxes - from the 6-speed mechanics of the first models to the 8-speed Aisin automatic, installed on the latest generation cars. The procedure for changing the oil in an automatic transmission has its own characteristics, which should be taken into account by the car owner who dares to perform this type of maintenance on his own. A certain skill will also be required to change the oil in the Volkswagen Touareg gearbox and transfer case.

Features of oil change in automatic transmission VW Touareg

There are many opinions regarding the need to change the oil in a Volkswagen Tuareg box. Should I open the transmission and change the oil? For a caring car owner, the answer to this question is obvious - definitely yes. Any, even the highest quality materials and mechanisms, and even with the most careful operation, do not last forever, and it will never hurt to make sure that everything is in order with them after a certain number of thousands of kilometers.

When to change the oil in the VW Touareg box

Among the features of the Volksagen Touareg is the lack of requirements in the technical documentation regarding the timing of changing the oil in the gearbox. Official dealers say, as a rule, that an oil change in a Tuareg automatic transmission is not required at all, since it is not provided for by the operating instructions of the manufacturer. However, practice shows that such a procedure would be useful even for preventive purposes after a run of 150 thousand km or more. In the event of any problems with the box, experts recommend starting the search for the causes and eliminating the problems that arise with an oil change. Malfunctions in this case are manifested in the form of jerks when shifting gears. It should be said that changing the oil in this case can be considered a slight fright: replacing the valve body will be much more time consuming and expensive. In addition, the need to change the oil in an automatic transmission may be caused, for example, by an oil cooler breakdown or another emergency situation when oil leaks out.

What kind of oil to fill in an automatic transmission VW Touareg

The type of oil that is used in the automatic transmission of Volkswagen Tuareg is also not indicated in the technical documentation, so you should be aware that the brand of oil depends on the modification of the gearbox.

The original oil for a 6-speed automatic transmission is "ATF" G 055 025 A2 with a capacity of 1 liter. It can be purchased only from authorized dealers or by ordering via the Internet. The cost of one canister ranges from 1200 to 1500 rubles. The analogues of this oil are:

  • JWS Car 3309;
  • Petro-Canada DuraDriye MV;
  • Febi ATF 27001;
  • SWAG ATF 81 92 9934.

Such oils can cost 600-700 rubles per canister, and, of course, cannot be considered an equivalent replacement for ATF, since it is the “native” oil that is designed for the high power and torque of the Tuareg engine. Any analogue will lose its qualities much faster and will require a new replacement or lead to interruptions in the operation of the gearbox.

For the Japanese-made 8-speed automatic transmission Aisin, the manufacturer of these units produces Aisin ATF AFW + oil and CVTF CFEx CVT fluid. There is an analogue of Aisin ATF - German-made oil Ravenol T-WS. A rather serious argument in favor of choosing one or another type of oil in this case is the cost: if Ravenol T-WS can be bought for 500-600 rubles per liter, then one liter of original oil can cost from 3 to 3,5 thousand rubles. A complete replacement may require 10-12 liters of oil.

Mileage 80000, all maintenance at the dealer, except for changing the oil in the automatic transmission. Here I took up this topic. And I learned a lot when I decided to change the oil. In general, the prices for replacement are different, AND THE DIVORCE FOR REPLACEMENT IS DIFFERENT - from 5000 to 2500, and most importantly, that for 5 thousand - this is a partial replacement and 2500 - complete. Well, the most important thing is to decide on a replacement, there were no shocks in the box, it worked as it should, except for the S-mode: it was twitchy in it. Well, I started by looking for oil, the original oil is 1300 per liter, you can find it on (zap.net) -z and 980. Well, I decided to look for an alternative and found, by the way, a good Liquid Moth 1200 ATF. With tolerances for this year and automatic transmission. Liquid moth has this program for selecting oil on the site, I really liked it. Before that, I bought Castrol, I had to carry it back to the store to take it according to the tolerances did not pass. I bought an original filter - 2700 rubles, and a gasket - 3600 rubles, the original. And the search began for a decent car service that offers a COMPLETE oil change in the SOUTH OF MOSCOW REGION AND Moscow. And, lo and behold, found 300 meters from the house. If from Moscow - 20 km from the Moscow Ring Road. Signed up for 9 am, arrived, met good-naturedly, announced a price of 3000 rubles, and 3 hours of work. I asked again for a complete replacement, they answered that they have a special apparatus, which is connected to the automatic transmission and oil is squeezed out with pressure. I leave the car and go home. By the way, the master is a very good-natured and elderly man, who examined each bolt like an artifact. I come and see this picture. Damn, guys for such work should be given TEA WITH BLACK CAVIAR. Which in my face was done. MASTER - SIMPLY SUPER. I forgot about the most important thing: you can’t recognize the automatic transmission - no shocks, no discomfort. Everything was like NEW.

How is oil change performed in automatic transmission Volksagen Touareg

It is most convenient to change the oil in the Aisin automatic transmission used in the Volksagen Touareg transmission on a lift so that there is free access to the automatic transmission pan. If the garage is equipped with a pit, this option is also suitable, if there is no pit, you will need a couple of good jacks. In summer, work can also be carried out on an open flyover. In any case, it is possible to perform a quality replacement if nothing interferes with visual inspection, dismantling and installation of equipment.

Before proceeding with the replacement, you need to buy the required oil, a new filter and a gasket on the pallet... Some experts also recommend replacing the thermostat, which is mostly in an aggressive environment and is exposed to high temperatures.

In addition, to perform this type of work, you will need:

  • a set of keys;
  • stationery knife;
  • screwdriver;
  • container for collecting used oil;
  • hose and funnel for filling new oil;
  • any cleaner.

You will need a cleaner first: before starting work, you must remove all dirt from the pallet. In addition, the sump is blown around the perimeter with air to prevent even small particles of debris from getting inside the box during the oil change.

After that, using a 17 hex wrench, the level plug is released and the drain plug is unscrewed with an asterisk T40. Waste oil is drained into a pre-prepared container. Then you should remove the so-called protection in the form of two transverse brackets, and you can begin to unscrew the fixing bolts around the perimeter of the pallet. This will require a 10mm spanner and a ratchet to get to the two front bolts located in a hard to reach place. All bolts are removed, except for two, which are maximally loosened, but not completely unscrewed. These two bolts are left in place to hold the sump when it is tilted to drain any remaining liquid in it. When removing the pallet, some force may be required to tear it off the box body: this can be done with a screwdriver or pry bar. It is extremely important not to damage the butt surfaces of the body and the pallet.

I report. Today I changed the oil in the gearbox, transfer case and differentials. Mileage 122000 km. I changed it for the first time, in principle, nothing bothered me, but I decided to overdo it.

The oil in the box was changed with the removal of the sump, drained, removed the sump, replaced the filter, put the sump in place and filled in new oil. Climbed about 6,5 liters. I took the original oil in the box and razdatka. By the way, the Tuareg has a box gasket and a filter box from the manufacturer Meile, at a price of 2 times cheaper than the original. I didn't find any external differences.

How to change the oil in a Volkswagen Touareg automatic transmission, part 1

The design of the pallet is made in such a way that the drain hole and the level plug are located in a certain depression, therefore, after draining the oil, a certain amount of liquid will still remain in the pallet, and in order not to pour it on yourself, you need to carefully remove the pallet.

  1. When the oil has stopped draining, the drain plug is installed in place, the two remaining bolts are unscrewed, and the sump is removed. A sign that the oil has become unusable may be a burning smell, black color and an uneven consistency of the drained liquid.
  2. The removed pallet, as a rule, is covered with an oily coating on the inside, which should be washed. The presence of chips on the magnets may indicate wear on one of the mechanisms. Magnets should also be thoroughly washed and reinstalled.

    VW Touareg automatic transmission pan should be washed and a new gasket installed on it
  3. Next, a new gasket with bushings is mounted on the pallet, which prevent excessive squeezing of the gasket when the pallet is installed in place. If the seat and the body of the pallet are not defective, no sealant is required when installing the pallet.
  4. The next step is to remove the filter, which is fastened with three bolts of 10. You should be prepared for the fact that after dismantling the filter, some more oil will pour out. The filter will also be covered with an oily coating; there may be small particles on the mesh, indicating wear of the mechanisms.
  5. After the filter has been thoroughly washed, a new O-ring should be installed on it. When replacing the filter, do not overtighten the fastening bolts so as not to damage the filter housing.
  6. After installing the filter, visually make sure that the wires located behind it are not pinched or damaged.

Before installing the pallet, use a utility knife to thoroughly clean the mounting surface from dirt, being careful not to damage the box body. Before installation, the bolts should be washed and lubricated; the bolts should be tightened diagonally, moving from the center to the edges of the pallet. Then the protection brackets are returned to their place, the drain hole is screwed in and you can proceed to filling the oil.

Checking the oil level

Oil can be filled into the box under pressure using a special tank VAG-1924, or using improvised means such as a hose and a funnel. The design of the Aisin automatic transmission does not provide a dipstick, so the oil is poured through the level glass. One end of the hose is tightly inserted into the level hole, a funnel is put on the other end, into which oil is poured. If a complete replacement is performed with a new thermostat, up to 9 liters of oil may be required. Having filled the system with the required amount of liquid, you should start the car without disassembling the structure and let it run for several minutes. Then you should remove the hose from the level hole and wait until the oil temperature reaches 35 degrees. If at the same time oil drips from the level hole, then there is enough oil in the box.

I did not take risks and took the original oil in the box and handout. For a partial replacement, 6,5 liters were included in the box. while not damaging the body of the box. I took 7 liters at a price of 18 euros per liter. From a suitable non-original, I found only Mobile 3309, but this oil is sold only in containers of 20 liters and 208 liters - this is a lot, I don’t need so much.

You need only 1 can (850 ml) of original oil in the dispenser, it costs 19 euros. I think that there is no point in bothering and looking for something else, since no one can clearly say what is flooded there.

In differentials, Etka offers original oil or API GL5 oil, so I took Liquid Moli gear oil, which corresponds to API GL5. In the front you need - 1 liter, in the back - 1,6 liters.

By the way, the oil in the box and diffs on a run of 122000 km was quite normal in appearance, but in the transfer case it was really black.

I advise you to change the fluid in the automatic transmission again after a run of 500-1000 km.

After that, tighten the level plug and check that there is no leakage under the pan gasket. This completes the oil change.

If it is necessary to install a new thermostat at the same time as changing the oil, then before proceeding with the dismantling of the pan, the old thermostat must be removed. It is located in the front right along the course of the car. Thus, most of the oil will pour out through the drain hole of the pan, and its remains will drain out of the oil cooler. To completely free the radiator from old oil, you can use a car pump, while, however, there is a risk of oil staining everything around. The front bumper may need to be removed to remove the thermostat. When replacing the thermostat, be sure to change the rubber seals on all pipes.

Changing the oil in the transfer case VW Touareg

VAG G052515A2 oil is intended for filling in the Volkswagen Touareg transfer case, Castrol Transmax Z can be used as an alternative. Replacement will require 0,85 liters of lubricant. The cost of the original oil can be from 1100 to 1700 rubles. 1 liter Castrol Transmax Z costs about 750 rubles.

The drain and filler plugs of the transfer case are removed using a 6 hexagon. A sealant for plugs is not provided - a sealant is used. The old sealant is removed from the threads and a new layer is applied. When the plugs are prepared, the drain is installed in place, and the required volume of oil is poured through the upper hole. When clamping plugs, superfluous efforts should not be applied.

Oil change in gearbox VW Touareg

The original oil for the front axle gearbox is VAG G052145S2 75-w90 API GL-5, for the rear axle gearbox, if differential lock is provided - VAG G052196A2 75-w85 LS, without locking - VAG G052145S2. The required volume of lubricant for the front gearbox is 1,6 liters, for the rear gearbox - 1,25 liters. Instead of original types of oils, Castrol SAF-XO 75w90 or Motul Gear 300 is allowed. The recommended interval between oil changes is 50 thousand kilometers. The cost of 1 liter of original gearbox oil: 1700-2200 rubles, Castrol SAF-XO 75w90 - 770-950 rubles per 1 liter, Motul Gear 300 - 1150-1350 rubles per 1 liter.

When changing the oil in the rear axle gearbox, you will need an 8 hexagon to unscrew the drain and filler plugs. After the oil has flowed out, a new sealing ring is put on the cleaned drain plug, and the plug is installed in place. New oil is poured through the upper hole, after which its plug with a new sealing ring is returned to its place.

Self-changing oil in an automatic transmission, transfer case and Volkswagen Touareg gearboxes, as a rule, does not cause any particular difficulties if you have a certain skill. When replacing, it is important to use original lubricating fluids or their closest analogues, as well as all the necessary consumables - gaskets, o-rings, sealant, etc. Systematic vehicle maintenance, including timely replacement of oils in all components and mechanisms, will ensure long and trouble-free operation of the car.
