Mercedes tunes electric S-Class with Tesla

In early September, Mercedes-Benz will show a new electric model. It will be an updated S-Class. At the same time, the manufacturer from Stuttgart is preparing the premiere of another debutant - the electric Mercedes-Benz EQS.

In fact, it will not be an electrically powered version of the S-Class, but a completely new model. It is built on the Modular Electric Architecture modular platform, and will technically differ from the brand's flagship. Moreover, the difference will concern not only the quality of the suspension, chassis and power unit, but also the appearance, since the EQS will become a luxurious liftback.

In the spring of 2019, the company announced that it wanted to launch a Tesla Model S rival, so it should come as no surprise that EQS prototype tests are being conducted at the flagship company of the American electric vehicle manufacturer. They also include the smaller but popular Tesla Model 3, and apparently German engineers are tweaking their electric car against the competition.

It is already known that the standard EQS will be able to overcome up to 700 km without recharging. It will receive two electric motors - one for each axle, as well as a suspension with swivel rear wheels, batteries produced in-house and a quick charging system. An electric car similar to the S-Class will most likely be equipped with the latest technological solutions that will find their application in the multimedia system, as well as driver and passenger safety systems.

It is not clear at this point when the luxury electric liftback will hit the market. Before the coronavirus pandemic, Mercedes announced that sales of the model will begin in early 2021. In the market, the EQS will compete not only for Tesla, but also for the future BMW 7-Series, Jaguar XJ, Porsche Taycan, as well as the Audi e-tron GT.
