Vacation in a company car. What do you need to remember when going abroad? In most companies, the use of a company car is governed by the company's fleet policy, i.e. an internal document that contains a set of rules for the acquisition, use and replacement of vehicles. There are currently two approaches. One of them suggests that the vehicles that are part of the company's fleet should be treated only as a working tool. Then they can be used by employees only for official purposes. Increasingly, however, a company car is seen as a form of additional remuneration for an employee's work.

Therefore, if the company's fleet policy allows you to go on vacation in a company car, you should not only be aware of the costs associated with ongoing operation, but above all, the necessary formalities.

Permission to travel abroad

First of all, for a private trip in a company car, the consent of the owner of the vehicle must be obtained. In the case of own fleet, it must be issued by an authorized person in the company. If, on the other hand, company vehicles are being rented or leased, such authorization must come from the lessor or rental company.

In some countries, such as Ukraine or Belarus, a power of attorney certified by a notary and certified by a sworn translator is required. Since there are no uniform rules in European countries, we recommend checking with the country's embassy before leaving, he adds.

Insurance period and country

People planning to travel abroad often wonder if their insurance will be recognized in other countries. AC policy is valid in Europe, except for Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova. To travel to countries not covered by the policy, you must additionally insure the vehicle. It is also worth checking if your assistance package is valid outside of Poland.

In addition, the driver must ensure that in the event of an unforeseen event, such as a collision or vehicle breakdown, he will receive appropriate support in the form of maintenance services, vehicle replacement or return to the country. It is in the common interest of the rental company and the client to choose the services that will secure the company's fleet as much as possible, explains Claudia Kowalczyk, Marketing Manager of Carefleet SA.

Green card - where is it needed?

Before leaving the Republic of Poland, you should find out whether you will need to purchase a Green Card, i.e. insurance of civil liability to third parties in foreign trips. Its main purpose is to ensure that road traffic victims can receive adequate compensation for damage caused by the driver of a foreign-registered vehicle and that motorists are not forced to purchase third party liability insurance at the border of each of the countries they visit. .

A green card is not required in the EU countries, as well as in Norway, Liechtenstein, Iceland, Switzerland. However, it must be present in countries such as: Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iran, Israel, Macedonia, Morocco, Moldova, Russia, Serbia, Montenegro, Tunisia, Turkey and Ukraine, says Claudia Kowalczyk, Carefleet Marketing Manager SA.
