Our Values: Treat each other like family

Welcome Wegman's, another value-driven company, to our community

Imagine: you just had such an amazing experience that you are struggling to write a love letter to… Grocery store? It's a reality at Wegman's: about 7,000 customers a year write everything from simple thank you notes to requests for a new Wegman location near them.

Our Values: Treat each other like family

However, it's not just customers who love Wegman's. Among the many awards they have received from the business media, they have been named to FORTUNE Magazine's 100 Best Companies to Work for every year since its inception in 1998. How do they do it? They start with a simple core commitment: to help customers and employees lead healthier and better lives through food.

While we are in the tire, repair and service business, not bread and milk, we share the core values of Wegman's. By treating each other like family, both of our businesses hope to create stronger communities.

Founded in Rochester, New York by brothers Walter and John Wegman in 1916, Wegman's has continued to be passed down from generation to generation even as it has grown from one storefront to 150 stores employing 52,000 people. Throughout the journey, they have been guided by the spirit of treating everyone like family, from their employees to customers and members of their wider community.

Perhaps the most inspiring part of Wegman is their ability to live out their values every day. For example, to protect the health of their employees and the community, they stopped selling tobacco products over 12 years ago. In addition, they offer free smoking cessation programs for all of their employees.

However, their people-centric approach doesn't stop them from running a hugely successful business. Last year, gross sales exceeded $9 billion.

The story doesn't end with these sales. Each year, Wegman's is committed to donating nearly 20 million pounds of food to local food banks, more than $10 million to local charities and events, and nearly $5 million to an employee scholarship fund that provides each member of their team with a clear career path. promotion.

More recently, they have also made big changes to their sustainability - drastically reducing their contribution to landfills, creating sustainable packaging and reducing emissions for their truck fleet. Combined with their commitment to source as much food as possible from local farmers, this sets Wegman's apart as a grocery store committed to contributing to a healthier world today, tomorrow and for years to come.

We are proud to share Wegman's core value of treating each other like family. Perhaps this is because both Wegman's and Chapel Hill Tire are family businesses that have been passed down from generation to generation. All we know is that we are excited to welcome Wegman's to our community and look forward to working with them to make our community a better place for our employees and customers.
