Nissan Sunny GTi-R, an all-wheel drive rally sports car from the 90s – Sports Cars

Rally and the 90s, what a beautiful union. Sure, group B boasted "Formula one“From the street, exotic and incredible racing cars, but in fact I found much more charm in them. Subaru Impreza e Delta HF that took place under the window of my school classroom. 90s rally queens were much closer to road cars (tell me how many Delta S4 roads you've seen in your life).

Between one Subaru, A Micu и delta - sometimes Celica - now and then slipped under my eyes Nissan Sunny GTi-R.

NISSAN SUNNY GTI-R

Designed to compete with the aforementioned vehicles, Nissan Sunny GTi-R was produced for a short time (1991-1994) and replicated (about 1500 pieces).

In fact, he's kind of the ugly duckling of the rally world, but underneath that tainted aesthetics of tuning air, he hides complex mechanics. Under the hood of the Sunny is the SR2,0DET 20-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, capable of running from 227 h.p. at 6.300 rpm and 267 Nm maximum torque at 4.800 rpm. These are numbers that make you smile today when compared to those of today's hatchbacks, but also its weight - and its dimensions - belong to a different era. Only with 1220 kg dry, 227 h.p. enough to accelerate the Sunny GTi-R from 0 to 100 km / h in 5,7 seconds, to top speed 232 km / h.

This is also thanks to the system all wheel drive WAITING Ets, the same one, equipped with the then very advanced older sister Nissan Skyline R32 in combination with a 5-speed manual transmission. The really modest tires (195/45/14), however, hide a high-performance braking system with Wheels are 305 mm at the front and 278 mm at the rear.

SPECIAL VERSIONS

La Nissan Sunny GTI-R it was also built in two special versions: RB and inevitable We did not... In the first case, it was a "cleaner" version, without ABS, lighter and made more Spartan: thanks to this weight decreased by 30 kg.

Inevitably only 22 of the Nismo versions were released. Basically it was the RB version with more customization options. A racing roll cage, sports suspension, racing seats and a limited-slip front differential can be fitted.

In addition, a sportier version called RB (Beta / Rally) appeared, lightened by 30 kg, without ABS and with a more spartan interior.
