Nissan describes the car as a "2nd generation electric" while the old Leaf and most cars on the market are "1st generation cars," the reporters said. The new Leaf aims to fill the gap between Tesla's first-generation vehicles. The new Leaf should contain everything that Nissan has learned in the seven years since the premiere of the previous car.

Battery and range

The Nissan Leaf II's battery has a capacity of 40 kilowatt-hours (kWh), but it is only 14-18 kilograms heavier than the previous generation car. The official results of the EPA's research on the car's range are not yet known, but Nissan expects it to be around 241 km. - and the journalists of "Electrek" had the impression that this was indeed the case.

New during test drive The Nissan Leaf consumed 14,8 kilowatt hours per 100 kilometers., without air conditioning, but with four passengers in the cabin. The portal compared the car to the Hyundai Ioniq Electric, which offers even lower energy consumption: 12,4 kWh / 100 km.

If the Nissan Leaf 2 were charged in a Polish house, the journey of 100 kilometers would cost about 8,9 zlotys. Corresponds to a fuel consumption of 1,9 l / 100 km. However, it was a very economical trip. Even the Nissan man was impressed with the skills of the Electrek journalist.

New Features

The journalist praised the e-Pedal function - accelerating and braking with one pedal: the gas - which makes driving on a winding road more enjoyable. He was also pleasantly surprised by the car's greater power: the new Leaf seemed to have a lot of power when accelerating even above 95 km/h, while the older version of the car started having problems from around 65 km/h.

According to an Electrek spokesman, the Nissan Leaf performed better than the Hyundai Ioniq Electric. The location of the batteries helped a lot: both cars are front-wheel drive, but the Ioniq Electric has a battery in the back and the new Leaf in the middle..

interior

The interior of the new Leaf is more modern and comfortable than in the previous version of the car, although the instrument panel itself with buttons seemed a little outdated to it. The downside was the lack of steering wheel distance adjustment and a poorly performing touchscreen and age-old interface.

ProPILOT - the speed and lane keeping function - functions very well, according to the journalist, although its activation is a bit complicated. In addition, hand sensors on the steering wheel do not detect freely dangling hands, which sooner or later causes an alarm.

Summary – Nissan Leaf «40 kWh» vs. Hyundai Ioniq Electric

Thus, the new Leaf was recognized better than the Ioniq Electric. The difference was small, but there was a higher profitability on the Nissan purchase despite a slightly higher price. The car won out thanks to its 40 kWh battery, good handling and a host of new technologies to make driving more enjoyable.
