Opel Vivaro Tour 2.5 CDTI Cosmo

If you have a large enough garage at home and a large Opel in it, we should congratulate you, as this means that you either have a large family, or a successful transport company, or just a lot of free time that you actively spend. Or even all together; although we have serious doubts about this - you must forgive us - because we did not believe in Superman for a long time. But things are changing, so don't look at multi-seat vans as work machines. It would be a big mistake.

Opel Vivaro is also very popular on Slovenian roads. You may be worried that most similar vans have the Renault logo on the nose, but look at driving the Vivaro as an advantage. Firstly, because you are not one of the many, since there are many more technically identical Trafics than Vivaros; and secondly, although there are not so many Opel services, Renault has services in every Slovenian village, so there will be no problems with any minor repairs. After all: why bother about others when you are happy with yours?

However, as we mentioned, don't even look at the Vivaro as a work car, as it's far more comfortable for passengers, let alone a passenger car, than you might think. If you don't mind climbing into the seat rather than leaning on it, and need to get the hang of (large and crisp) exterior mirrors when reversing, the Vivaro is the way to go.

Big enough to take the whole family for a picnic, convenient for everyone to get to their destination in pink, nice to drive so you don't miss a small car, and with a modern turbo diesel engine, it's also economical enough to be on overtaking lane despite the fact that a rare guest wanders at gas stations. However, the huge space inside does not mean that everything is in abundance.

It is not clear to us how the designers failed to allocate enough usable space in the abundant passenger work, where the driver could put his wallet, phone or just a big sandwich. The slot in the dashboard can only hold small luggage, everything else will fall to the ground while driving, and the huge box in the door is too large and too low to be used while driving. It is true, however, that you can squeeze an even smaller size into this journey.

But the Vivaro still surprises with its comfort as it sits very upright, with almost perfect driving ergonomics and, above all, with a dashboard that can be easily replaced with a dashboard in a smaller car. We only lacked daytime running lights, and not only because of the "manual" switching on and off, but to a greater extent because of, as a result, weaker illumination of the dashboard, which is less transparent during the day.

The 2-litre turbodiesel engine and the six-speed gearbox are a perfect match. The engine, as a typical representative of turbodiesels, actually has a small operating speed range, and the transmission is “calculated” very briefly. This greatly improves the audible slightly stiff engine, but don't be surprised if you get into the first three gears shortly after the start, which will be “short” also due to possible additional load (read about a fully loaded van, trailer, etc.). Well, you will feel that the rear (very modest in space) rigid rear axle is only limited on rural pothole roads at full load, otherwise the chassis proved to be comfortable enough.

The Opel Vivaro is also common on domestic roads due to its technical similarity to the Trafic, it is agile, relatively economical, reliable to drive and, in short, always a pleasant passenger. The Tour label is real, although you can also hope for the Giro and Vuelta with it.

evaluation

  • If you are one of those people who are tempted by a passenger van to transport your family, then it's time to act. Huge space doesn't mean a lack of comfort, a gluttonous engine, or hard work behind the wheel, so be brave in dealerships as there are more and more drivers like this!
