Parking, city bike, walking buttons. How to protect yourself during a pandemic?

Parking, city bike, walking buttons. How to protect yourself during a pandemic? The Office of Municipal Roads in Warsaw recalls solutions that allow not to touch the elements of the road infrastructure: buttons for pedestrians at intersections, Veturilo terminals and parking meters. This is important due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

DISABLED PEDESTRIAN BUTTONS

Buttons for pedestrians at intersections with traffic lights have been disabled since mid-March. Where they were the only sensor, the lights were set to constant and green for pedestrians turned on regardless of their presence. Automatic sensors detect pedestrians and cyclists at more modern intersections. Thanks to this, there is no need to touch the buttons. The exception is blind people who use these devices as sound and vibration signals, as well as a tactile map of pedestrian crossings.

VETURILO ALMOST MOBILE

Warsaw system operator Veturilo constantly disinfects bikes and stations. However, you do not need to touch the touch screen terminals to rent a bike. Using the Veturilo mobile app is easier, thanks to which it takes just a few seconds to rent a bike.

This option is used by the vast majority, over 90 percent. users. Therefore, in the next release, the operator wants to abandon most of the terminals and leave them only in the most popular places for the needs of people who rarely use bicycles.

PAY PARKING WITH THE APP

A similar trend of growing popularity of mobile applications can be traced in the area of paid parking. Even 5 years ago, only every tenth driver used the option of paying through the application. Last year, mobile payments accounted for 23 percent. income, and currently, during the epidemic, almost every fourth zloty is paid using the application.

Since April, drivers in Warsaw have had a second application for paying for parking. Thanks to the tender, in addition to the current supplier (SkyCash and its MobiParking application), drivers can also use Mobile Traffic Data services (moBILET application). We are analyzing the possibility of further expanding the offer with new applications.

Mobile payment allows you to completely abandon the use of a parking meter. These devices are, of course, sanitized by the operator and can still be used. However, the application is much more convenient - you do not need to waste time looking for a parking meter or worry about queues (you can pay for parking while in the car, without the risk of running into a check when paying at a parking meter) . Mobile payment also allows you to pay for a certain amount of time, which avoids overpaying - so you don't have to know in advance how long you'll be parking, says ZDM Warszawa.

Users of both applications can pay for parking using SMS or IVR voice commands. The last two methods do not require a smartphone (application download), but you must be a registered user of the service and indicate the appropriate payment source (payment card/virtual wallet).
