Peugeot 5008 GT 2.0 BlueHDI, or How many vans are in an SUV and how many SUVs are in a van?

If you had a family too big for a station wagon in the 90s, you could take them aboard a Volkswagen T4 bus or in a comfortable minivan like the Ford Galaxy. Today, cars from the latter group are increasingly turning into SUVs. This is exactly the case with the Peugeot 5008 generation. This model has already been discussed on the pages of our site, but this time we are dealing with the richest version of equipment - GT.

New Peugeot 5008 - SUV in the front, van in the back

Although I am not a fan of SUVs, I was happy to test the biggest one. Peugeot. 5008 it's more than an SUV. This is a van that PSA has adapted to the requirements of today's market. The large body is a two-volume body with a clearly divided huge front and a long cabin. The high window line and wide expanses of sheet metal enhance the impression of a "big SUV", but when we look at the dimensions, it turns out that 5008 it's not as big as it looks. It is 4,65 meters long, 1,65 meters high and 2,1 meters wide.

The GT variant is unfortunately not a sport. This is simply the highest standard of equipment, the external features of which are: electric folding mirrors with “Lion Spotlight” illumination (in the illuminated night space, the logo is displayed next to the front door Peugeot), 19″ two-tone Boston wheels, a front bumper that “clings” to another element standard for the GT version - full LED headlights with automatic light switching (high beam - low beam).

Interior of two worlds, i.e. look inside the Peugeot 5008

W new 5008 On the one hand, we have a passenger / off-road front with tightly closed door panels, seats and a high central tunnel. On the other hand, we have three separate rear seats and a huge trunk, which we can do without by transforming it into two more places, where we will carry additional passengers for a short distance - in total, like in a van, 7 people can be on board.

Chest Peugeot 5008 initially it is just over 700 liters. After folding the rear seats and increasing the space to the roof, it increases to 1800 liters. These values are enough for a family of 5 to pack their holiday gear or, if necessary, take a refrigerator or washing machine with them. The trunk floor becomes almost flat when the middle row seats are folded down. In addition, we can add a backrest for the front passenger seat, which makes it possible to carry items longer than 3m.

There will be no middle row passengers. 5008 bumping their elbows against each other, they will not ruin their hair on the upholstery of the ceiling and will not clog their ears with their knees. Their comfort will be provided by separate control of the blowing force of the central tunnel, power windows and individual adjustment of the distance and inclination of each seat. As befits a van, big Peugeot has a flat floor. The windows in the rear of the body are tinted, and additional sunblinds are installed in the doors.

For the design of the front of the cabin 5008, stylists Peugeot proved they've been on the strip lately. Released with 208 distinctive parts, they are designed for the new models of the French brand. Even if we hide the badge on the steering wheel, we can easily recognize the manufacturer of the car we are sitting in. The clock, located next to the glass, and the tiny steering wheel have become the common denominator of the whole new Lviv.

W 5008 model a new element has appeared - function keys, collected under the main screen on the center console. Their shape resembles a piano keyboard, and they are responsible for switching between menu groups such as: car settings, air conditioning and navigation. The sub-levels of the menu are simple and clear, using them is easy and intuitive.

W Peugeot 5008 however, there is no separate air conditioner control panel, so you have to select the appropriate key each time to change the temperature settings.

The dimensions of the central tunnel are somewhat overwhelming - it is in it, and not in front of the passenger, that the largest (cooled) storage compartment is located. 5008. There is also a very beautifully made lever on the tunnel, or rather an automatic transmission manipulator. The big lion doesn't have much storage space. In addition to the two mentioned, each door has a roomy pocket and that's it.

Seats Peugeot 5008 they are very comfortable and very rigid. Not “French” at all, but definitely not tiring. They have a wide range of adjustments with the possibility of extending the seat, and in the test version they are equipped with a massage function, thanks to which they will make even a long trip more enjoyable.

Regardless of whether we are driving on a long route or in a cramped city, despite its considerable size Peugeot 5008, we will very quickly feel where the big lion ends. The dimensions of the car are not impressive. 5008 is very manoeuvrable. Visibility in all directions is excellent. The car ends where the windshield is. Of course, the rear could have been bigger, and the A-pillars narrower, but there really is nothing to complain about. The body of the car is compact and almost square, like a van. The large front part stands out clearly from the background of the car, and most of the hood is visible from behind the steering wheel. If we add the front and rear cameras to the listed advantages, then Peugeot we can park in any parking space without any problem.

G (adj.) T (y) in Peugeot 5008

GT the highest level of equipment available Peugeot 5008. This version includes many driver assistants and an Ambient Lighting package, among other features. Packages such as "Safety Plus" - collision warning, "VisioPark" are also standard. sensors and cameras for parking assistance. The roof, as well as all the interior upholstery, is finished in black - painted inside and out with the headlining material. A slightly gloomy interior is enlivened by orange stitching.

GT version it also has a full I-Cockpit, ie. in front of the steering wheel, instead of a traditional clock, there is an almost 13-inch screen that, in addition to the traditional clock, can display many other data. For example, when we use navigation, the clock is displayed as cylinders that rotate relative to fixed hands - "pins" - looks very stylish. As part of the I-Cockpit, you can choose between two mood modes - BOOST and RELAX - in which, for example, the smell spreading in the car, the type of massage for both seats separately or the sport / normal engine setting. definite. Each of the moods is associated with a different color of the clock and the central screen, as well as the intensity of the ambient light.

In the standard GT We also get an option unique in this class - a dashboard trimmed with real Gray Oak wood - gray oak.

Additionally checked Peugeot 5008 It was equipped, among other things, with nappa leather upholstery, a huge power glass sunroof, front seats with massage and heating functions, a heated windshield, an automatic tailgate and an excellent FOCAL audio system with ten speakers and an amplifier with a total output of 500W.

All fittings Peugeot 5008 Worked fine, except for navigation. TomTom is a top brand of navigation systems, and while the map itself isn't anything to complain about, its voice control is so clumsy that it even reminds me of the Mercedes S-Class - W220, which debuted the multimedia voice control system twenty years ago, and also required a lot of patience.

Is the lion roaring? Is the lion clanking? The lion is purring (or pretending to be out of the speakers)!

The large Lion engine line starts with a tiny 3 hp 1.2-litre 130-cylinder engine. For GT version, Peugeot predicted one from the other end of the series. The 2.0-liter diesel is paired with a new Japanese Aisina EAT8 gearbox with eight gears. This is a classic torque converter. The Japanese are developing a somewhat forgotten technology thanks to dual-clutch gearboxes. And that's good, because the EAT8 shifts gears at an accelerated pace and always knows what is needed at the moment.

The power of this two-liter unit is 180 hp. This figure does not seem particularly high, but the torque of 400 Nm is already impressive. In conjunction with the described transmission, the car accelerates smoothly in all speed ranges, and at the same time does not consume excessive amounts of diesel fuel. During the test Peugeot 5008 you need less than 8 liters per 100 km. This may not be a particularly low result, but we should not forget that this is a van, so both its aerodynamic drag and weight require a lot of work from the engine. The latter, even when moving, is very quiet. We will hear that we have a diesel engine under the hood only if we stand next to it or look at the tachometer, the red field of which starts at 4,5 thousand revolutions. The sound of the engine can be turned on by the speakers - this happens when we activate the "Sport" mode. But isn't that what automaniacs mean?

The only thing missing from the Peugeot 5008 is all-wheel drive.

In everyday, even dynamic driving, you don’t feel that you are driving a big car. The biggest Peugeot works very confidently and predictably. For its size, it handles the road very well and is just a joy to drive.

At first, the small steering wheel may seem strange, but in 5008 model after a dozen or two kilometers you can get used to it. This has a positive effect on driving accuracy.

In the tested GT version tires are 19 inches and a large width of 235, which also improves the grip of the big Lion. These two elements are very important, because when driving around the city and wanting to quickly start from a traffic light, the driver will have to firmly hold the steering wheel. Otherwise, the powerful torque will snatch it out of your hands. Difficulties will also arise when making quick turns at a roundabout or when driving dynamically on a winding road. However, wet asphalt will be the most problematic. In all these cases, the traction control will not allow us to use even 30% of the available power. This is associated with the largest deficit Peugeot 5008 - no all-wheel drive.

Despite the lack of 4x4 drive, the suspension with the help of large rubbers keeps a heavy car in check, very comfortable and quiet. He could only react less aggressively to speed bumps. Maybe just smaller disks will suffice?

Not everyone's driving is the greatest Peugeot we'll like it. One of the most annoying things is the lack of a separate start-stop switch. With a large diesel engine, its work always causes unpleasant shaking of the entire body. It can be disabled, but for this you need to enter the appropriate submenu of the car settings. The auxiliary brake will also be annoying as it kicks in every time you turn off the engine and doesn't disengage after the car is restarted. The location of the cruise control lever is also difficult to get used to - it is located on the steering column, directly below the turn signal lever. At least at the initial stage of using this car, we will want to turn on the “turn signals” more than once.

Peugeot 5008 GT version - for a family, a rich family ...

5008 it's almost the perfect family car. Almost because unfortunately Peugeot needs to be improved a little … Despite only 10 thousand. kilometers, creases on the skin are already visible on the driver's seat, glue comes out from under the wooden plank on the right front door, and the chrome strip above the glove compartment door in front of the passenger sticks out unevenly.

Prizes Peugeot 5008 от 100 злотых. За эту сумму мы получаем большой семейный фургон с очень современным внешним видом и крохотным двигателем. GT version it costs at least 167, and the described unit with additional equipment costs more than 200 4. Despite the abundance of accessories, the price is still quite high - too high for a car that claims to be anything more than a van. Unfortunately, in the absence of a drive ×, this is where the aspirations end.
