Peugeot 807 2.2 HDi ST

The number is actually a logical sequence of what Peugeot has been offering us over the years. But this time it's not just a number anymore. The car is also larger. The 807 is 272 millimeters longer on the outside, 314 millimeters wider and 142 millimeters taller, or, if you prefer, a good quarter of a meter longer, a third of a meter wider and just under seven meters taller. Well, these are the numbers that put the beginner a whole class higher.

But let's leave the numbers aside. We prefer to indulge in feelings. This is not to say that there are no large dimensions behind the wheel. If not elsewhere, you will definitely notice it in the narrow parking lots. 807 requires special attention, especially when measuring its width. And also a length that is no longer a cat's cough. Especially if you are not used to it. At the same time, the straight rear offered by the 806 has been replaced with a slightly more rounded rear at the back, which of course means you have to get used to it as well. But anything that turns out to be a disadvantage in cities turns out to be an advantage in many places.

Lovers of interesting lines and shapes will definitely notice this on the dashboard. The traditional lines that we encounter in 806 have now been replaced by completely new and, above all, unusual ones. The visor, for example, is designed so that light smoothly penetrates the daytime, passing through the sensors located in the middle. Those who like to play with light will surely be delighted with this. The emerald-colored gauges are followed by a matching lid of the unusually small box next to the gear lever.

In addition to the gauges, there are three more information screens on the dashboard. Those in front of the steering wheel for warning lights, those under the sensors for RDS radio and trip computer data, and the air conditioning screen mounted on the center console. And as you start to open and open more and more drawers and boxes around you, you will find that the comfort offered by the home is gradually moving into cars as well.

Given its length, the Peugeot 806 simply couldn't offer it. There were only a few boxes. Even to the extent that it was only with the last update, an additional leather cover was attached to the very bottom of the center console in order to solve this problem. However, even the Peugeot 807 is not perfect. It lacks something, namely a useful drawer where one could put such little things as keys or a mobile phone. The most suitable place for the latter was found in the groove of the door closing handle, for which, of course, it is far from intended.

But in the new Peugeot, it is not only the dashboard that is friendlier and easier to read. The driving position has also become more ergonomic. This can be explained mainly by the additional height of the passenger compartment, which allows the dashboard to be positioned slightly higher, thereby bringing the driver's workplace closer to passenger cars and thus significantly farther from vans. The latter is most reminiscent of the parking brake lever, which is still located to the left of the driver's seat. There is not only a road, but also inaccessibility.

But if you ignore this flaw, the Peugeot 807 is perfectly driver-friendly. Everything is at hand! The switches for radio control have now been moved like a lever on the steering wheel, which is a big advantage. Gauges are almost always in the field of view, the gear lever is close at hand, as well as the air conditioning switches, and in this regard the 807 is undoubtedly a step ahead of the 806. Even though the tallest one may complain that it is not. the friendliest by its standards.

However, it's hard to imagine what else the 807 has to offer behind the front seats. The main motto of the rear is still the ability to carry up to five passengers, of course in maximum comfort, while at the same time offering ample luggage space. The newcomer, of course, provides it with a few larger measures, but the new nose and richer dashboard have taken their toll. A novelty that cannot be ignored are the power sliding doors, which are already standard on the ST. They once again proved their usefulness after the first minutes of child's play, as passengers no longer get their hands dirty when opening them.

The bottom of the rear, like the 806, remains flat, which has its advantages when it comes to entering the cabin or loading heavier and larger items of luggage. But the disadvantages show up when, for example, you want to remove your shopping bag so that its contents do not get inside the entire machine. Therefore, compared to its predecessor, the 807 offers additional vents in the B-pillar that can be identified by ventilation intensity, longitudinally movable seats that can accurately measure the space for passengers and luggage, but there are no more useful boxes than in the 806, and seats, although their installation and removal system has been somewhat lightened, still remain in the heavy category. Well, the good thing about them is that they are a little more comfortable and, above all, are well regulated.

Finally, let's dwell on the prices, configuration and range of engines. The price that a beginner requires is, for obvious reasons, much higher. Almost a million tolar. But this price includes not only a larger and newer car, but also a richer set of equipment. And also the engine range, which now includes two diesel engines in addition to three gasoline engines. And just stronger than both, the Peugeot 807 feels straight to the touch. It doesn't waste power, of course, so it provides ample maneuverability in cities and on twisty roads and a pretty decent speed on the highway. And this despite the fact that its performance is not much better than the Peugeot 806 with a 2-liter HDi engine.

Understandably, the 807 has not only grown, but is also safer – it already offers six airbags as standard – and therefore heavier. It also proves that he rightfully got a higher number for the number.

Overall rating (331/420)

  • The Peugeot 807 has made significant progress over its predecessor, which means some competitors won't have such an easy job anymore. By the way, interest in his older brother, at least in the news department, has not faded away.

  • Exterior (11/15)

The Peugeot 807 is undoubtedly an elegant sedan van, but some of them will also be rivals.

  • Interior (115/140)

Compared to its predecessor, the passenger compartment has made progress, although the bare dimensions may not fully reflect this.

  • Engine, transmission (35

    / 40)

The combination of engine and transmission seems to be painted on the skin for this Peugeot, and some may lack a few extra "horses".

  • Driving performance (71

    / 95)

Like the car, the suspension is adapted for a comfortable ride, but even at higher speeds, the 807 remains a very safe sedan.

  • Performance (25/35)

It fully meets the needs of many Peugeot 807 2.2 HDi families. Only the 3,0-liter petrol engine remains more demanding.

  • Security (35/45)

Xenon headlights are available at an additional cost, but up to 6 airbags and a rain sensor are fitted as standard.

  • Economy

The price is not low, but you get a lot for it. At the same time, fuel consumption, which can be extremely modest, should not be overlooked.
