Porsche 911 VS McLare 540C: Icon Wheels FACEOFF – Auto Sportive

The Porsche 911 is the queen of everyday sports cars, but McLaren is determined to piss her off with the 540C. Let's see if it works on paper.

These are two very different cars, 911 and 540C... The Porsche 911 needs little introduction: it is the most sophisticated and runnable sports car on the market, a timeless classic that gets better and better every time. There McLaren 540C, instead, she is a little girl. It's the least powerful and least expensive car in the lineup, aiming to be sporty - more or less - versatile.

Latest generation 911, 992, it grew in size and became even more comfortable and convenient, and, of course, even faster. The 540C is more of a supercar - in form and architecture - but it's been toned down and made more tractable, at least compared to its 570S sister.

Let's take a look at a comparison of these two great cars on paper.

dimensions

La Porsche 911 and McLaren 540C I practically long equal (452 and 453 cm), but at 185 cm width and 130 cm HeightThe Porsche is narrower and more comfortable, especially when seated and on the move. In fact, McLaren pays for its 201 cm wide and 120 cm high due to the shape of the supercar.

Il step However, the McLaren is much longer, 267cm versus just 235cm for the Porsche (so it's more stable). The Englishman is also lighter by almost 300 kg of the projectile: 1360 kg versus 1660 for the 911, a lot.

Potenza

Two different hearts: a flat-six six-cylinder engine mounted behind the rear axle for a Porsche, a centrally located V8 for a McLaren. In detail, the 540C is a 3,8-liter twin-turbo engine that delivers 540 h.p. up to 7.500 inputs and 540 Nm up to 3.500 inputs.

On the other hand, Porsche's six-cylinder engine is 3,0-liter engine with 450 hp. at 6500 rpm and 530 Nm of torque at 2.300 rpm.... The McLaren is more powerful, but the Porsche has both power and torque at much lower revs.

In terms of powertrain, Porsche is equipped with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, while McLaren still has a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission.

performance

We come to the performance. The lighter and more powerful McLaren wins at 0-100 km / h and top speed, but the German defends himself well.

3,5 seconds and 320 km / h for 540C, 3,9 seconds and 308 km / h for 911.

La McLaren, I must say, another 30.000 euros more expensive (130.000 and 167.000)but both are designed to be operated and managed even in day to day use.

Consumption? In favor of the German: 9.1 l / 100 km against i 10,7). Not bad considering the forces involved.
