Porsche Taycan - Review of the automotive magazine. What about a two speed gearbox?

This is probably the first review of the Porsche Taycan, or rather the Porsche Taycan Turbo: driving experience and detailed technical data. Among them is a curiosity that has been quiet for the past few months - the electric Porsche will have a two-speed gearbox, which is unique in the world of electrics!

Porsche Tycan Turbo available with two electric motors: 160 kW (218 hp) at the front axle and 300 kW (408 hp) at the rear axle. The engines will have a torque of 300 and 550 Nm, respectively. The Turbo variant should be the most powerful version of an electric Porsche. Cheaper and weaker models are Taycan and Taycan 4s..

Both motors can rev up to 16rpm (000rpm) with a combined torque of 267Nm - but the maximum is only possible for 1 second in overboost mode. “When the car was pushed to the limit,” recalls journalist Georg Kacher, the gearbox is locked in first gear so as not to damage it "... Porsche boasts that the car can accelerate tenfold to 100 km / h without reducing the power available to the user.

Interestingly, multi-speed transmissions are practically not used in electric vehicles (exception: Rimac). Speeds and torque require advanced, expensive designs that fall outside the budget of the average EV.

The Porsche Taycan Turbo battery weighs over 635 kg and has a capacity of 96 kWh.... It was built using 408 lithium-ion cells in a case made by LG Chem. Unlike what Porsche has already promised to charge with 350 kW, Automobilemag mentions 250 kW at 800 V. The same value is possible with regenerative braking (regenerative braking). This suggests that Porsche has designed the battery cooling mechanism extremely reliably, and the journalist ... made a mistake in the listing.

The standard on the Taycan line should be swivel rear wheels... All versions, in addition to the cheapest, will also have standard air suspension. It is possible that the base will also hit the market, cheaper version with 80 kWh battery and one 240 kW (326 hp) motor rear wheel guidance.

Production of the Porsche Taycan has already begun, with the Zuffenhausen plant expected to produce up to 60 vehicles per year by 2021. In the XNUMX year, a third of the vehicles will be models suspended above. Porsche Tycan Cross Tourism... In 2023, Taycana's J1 platform should be replaced by the J1 II. It is slated to be cheaper and will allow three more electric-powered relatives to be built, which will likely include a convertible, a full-size SUV and a Porsche 928-style coupe.

According to the editorial staff of www.elektrowoz.pl

Elon Musk ditched gears because it would complicate the design of the Model S. However, we expect multi-speed transmissions to gradually fall into the hands of electricians. Thanks to them, it will be possible to preserve the power reserve while reducing the battery capacity, which means to make the car thinner. Similarly, it happened with combustion cars, when giant engines and high fuel consumption became a burden on family budgets.
