Rust converter Sonax. Instructions for use
How does it work?
Sonax rust converter (article 311200) is a combined product that performs two functions at once:
- chemical decomposition of iron oxides;
- formation of a soil film on the treated surface.
The tool is not a powerful chemical aggressor. She works slowly and gently. Immediately after application, the agent softens the structure of the oxide crust and penetrates deep into the rust. After a few minutes, visible changes begin. The rusted area of the metal turns pink, then the oxides begin to exfoliate and decompose.
After the physical destruction of metal oxides, the treated area is covered with a primer film. The primed area, as practice has shown, resists well the appearance of new centers of corrosion. But the primer used in the product is not effective enough to compete with a full-fledged metal primer in the production of painting work.
Instructions for use
The Sonax Rust Converter comes with a 125 ml bottle of product, a scraper for removing large rust flakes and a brush for applying the composition. Instructions for use are simple, and for the full use of the tool does not require special skills.
- We clean the corroded areas with a scraper. We remove only the easily removable surface layer of oxides, no need to try to scrape off all the rust to white metal.
- We wipe the treated area dry. You can additionally, to enhance the effect, use a degreaser.
- Apply with the included brush.
- We wait for at least one hour until the rust decomposes and the primer coat hardens.
If necessary, repeat the procedure several times.

However, in practice, the place etched with a rust converter shows through in relief and remains visible after painting. Therefore, this composition is usually used to treat minor body elements that do not particularly affect the appearance, or as a temporary measure to prevent the spread of corrosion until a full repair.
