Rust converters Hi-Gear

Composition

The same action is required of any rust converter: by means of the acid contained in the product, the surface rust must be transformed into an insoluble salt. This salt, in the process of natural drying, turns into a primer suitable as a basis for subsequent surface painting. The rest of the components are:

  1. corrosion inhibitors.
  2. Foaming agents that facilitate the removal of rust residues.
  3. Solvents.
  4. composition stabilizers.

Rust converters Hi-Gear

Manufacturers introduce different types of acids into the composition of rust converters. In particular, rust converters Fenom, Tsinkar contain hydrochloric acid. It is more active, but requires further removal after application to the surface. Otherwise, acids easily penetrate into the cracks and grooves, causing damage to the "healthy" areas of the coating.

Rust converters from Hi-Gear work differently. They contain less active phosphoric acid, which works more slowly, but all subsequent work can be carried out at any time. This shift in operations contributes to a more thorough rust conversion and adhesion of the soil to the substrate.

The most popular types of rust converters Hi-Gear

The four most well-known formulations are NO RUST products, designated HG5718, HG5719, HG40 and HG5721. The difference between them is as follows:

  • HG5718 acts on the adhesive principle, promoting the transformation of rust from the surface to the depth. The tool has waterproof characteristics, after drying it forms a strong film. Theoretically, the car can not even be painted (however, after processing, the surface of the body becomes dark gray);
  • HG5719 acts more gently, and is applied in several layers (but no more than three). Painting after readiness is mandatory, although the finished coating, due to the higher concentration of components, is characterized by increased resistance to the effects of active chemicals;
  • HG5721 and HG40 are so-called penetration converters. They are used with a significant thickness of corrosion spots, it has (unlike Tsinkar) a waterproof effect, but requires surface painting immediately after the film dries.

Rust converters Hi-Gear

The entire range of products designed to convert rust from the Hi-Gear brand is efficient in a limited temperature range - from 10 to 30 °C. This is due to the physicochemical properties of phosphoric acid. At higher temperatures, it can actively interact with alcohols, and at lower temperatures it loses its ability to rust.

Instructions for use

The surface to be treated must be thoroughly cleaned from traces of corrosion. Mechanical cleaning is used with metal brushes (small corrosion spots can also be removed with coarse-grained sandpaper).

After intensively shaking the can, the agent is directed to the metal from a distance of 150 ... 200 mm. At the same time, they try to prevent the funds from getting into undamaged places. Processing with an interval of 20 ... 30 minutes should be repeated. From user feedback, it follows that with increasing distance, unproductive consumption of funds increases. A significant clarification, because the cost of all rust converters from Hi-Gear is noticeably higher than the same Tsinkar.

After complete drying (occurs on average after 30 minutes), the surface can be painted: the formed film is hygroscopic and holds the paint well. When processing, they try to move the can as evenly as possible; if smudges form, they must be removed immediately using ethyl alcohol.
